Product description (c) 1992 by Celine Music/Synsound [BK 57840] .com The primordial unknown--or the modern urban dweller's impressions thereof--has long been a staple of New Age music. So it was only a matter of time before some studio whiz got the notion to take the translation process one step further and bring that atmosphere to the dance floor. It's definitely authentic--the creators studied and borrowed genuine chants from African tribes--but just as importantly, it's remarkably seductive. The chart-topping signature song, "Sweet Lullaby," is indicative of what's going on in the grooves of the other nine tracks; ambient house beats burble pastorally while "multi-culti" samples ebb and flow gracefully, even romantically, through the mix. -- David Sprague

It grows on you.
Back in the day, my older (read: cooler) brother worked at Music Plus. So, gifts from him were often music-related. This was a present from my brother, when it first came out. He said he thought I might give it a try, and I did...I recall laughing profusely as I skipped through the tracks. I did this a few more times. I made my friend come over and listen to it. We laughed profusely. Then we laughed and sang along with the music. Over time, we sang more and laughed (a little) less... and from there it is history. This album reminds me of (one snippet) of my teenage days. It is great, unobtrusive background music that I find alternately soothing and nostalgically catchy. If that makes sense... music, so subjective!(I lost my original disc quite a while ago. It made me pretty sad, but I eventually forgot about it. Then I found used copies that were really overpriced. Finally, I found a used one that was a great deal here on amazon. The case was banged up, but the disc and art are pristine. So happy!)

Perfect music for a road trip
Am replacing my old cassette tape with this CD after 24 years of loving this music. This is such a good album in the style of ethnic electronica, which is world music with a slight electronic beat. But don't let that scare you away. I'm not a new age type of person but this music is unassuming and interesting. If Amazon doesn't offer you a sample, check it out on youtube.com but make sure it is the 1992 Deep Forest (self titled) album. You can't find this original 1992 album on ITunes, and I'm not sure why (they seem to have all the others). We use it when going on road trips as the music is oddly entrancing and great for relaxing on the road. The inspirations are from tribes in Africa and Oceania, mixed in with soothing beats. Pretty cool final product. Everyone who has heard this music in our car, ranging in ages from 10 to 60, has enjoyed it immensely.

A Delightful Sojurn
Deep Forest is a must for those who like music that is relaxing and enthralling. This music creates visual dreamscapes in the mind where you explore. More imaginative than typical "new age" stuff. Even Tom Servo and Crooow lampooned most new age stuff on a MST3K show. They said to make a New Age album one only has to get a Synthsizing Organ, hold some keys down for infinate and get a contract! Deep Forest goes far beyond that!Taking aborigone African drumming and piping, refashioning it with synthesizers, it creates dreamscapes of forests and jungles that are peaceful and relaxing. The perfect escape from the sounds of the city in a busy workday!Get this album and relax for a while

Love this album - and it's very much creates an organic, whole statement from the first to the last "song". I first heard this many, many years ago and have always loved it. Electronic dance music is very popular now but this combines the best of primitive, tribal music with beautiful voices and electronics. And it has beautiful tunes which are sadly lacking in a great deal of EDM. Though I definitely feel this is music to move to (it always gives me a physical and emotional boost) - it has an interesting variety of rhythms - not just the same beat over and over again.

A+. Love this CD. Very different mix that combines light electronic music with native chants
A++: Music is of course very subjective and everyone has different tastes. For me, I love this CD and I highly recommend it. It is very different and it combines a little of electronic music with sounds from the deep forest of Africa. The whole CD is good but my favorite song is "Sweet Lullaby". Enjoy.
