Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - PlayStation 3

Great game! My 6yo is able to play the game.

For anyone that has enjoyed classic kart racing games in the past, this game is for you! It's been well worth it at a $21 price tag. Up until the release of the new Mario Kart 8, I'd argue that this is/was the best kart racing game on the market. Most of us don't have a Wii-U, so this becomes the default king.Pros:Tons of fun, tons of speed, tons of challenge. The levels are all inspired by Sega mascots, and are all very well put together and imaginative. You seamlessly transform between a kart, boat, and plane, which really adds to the dynamics and keeps things interesting. You can play online and there are loads to unlock. Also, you can't just walk in and start nabbing 1st place right off the bat. It's challenging even at the B level (medium) of difficulty. Even with the difficulty against computer at higher levels, the game is blast with friends, just as any kart racer should be.Cons:The challenge in World Tour and otherwise. There are various modes and challenges you have to pass through in this mode, and once you move up past the B class level (A and S), you can make almost no mistakes. It can be very unforgiving to go through a 5 minute challenge only to lose by 1-2 seconds. Challenge is good, but you almost feel like there are things you'll just never unlock at this level of difficulty.

I went into this game underestimating how fun it is. I was hesitant to find a kart racing game to replace my classic Crash Team Racing PS1 game, and somewhat reluctantly bought this after reading great reviews. After playing for several weeks, I can say this game almost perfectly compliments my game collection. The graphics are amazing! The races are fun and complicated (hidden short cuts). The gameplay is complex enough to be a decent challenge (especially on the hard levels) but simple enough that anyone who has played CTR will pick up fairly quickly (my girlfriend who doesn't play video games at all picked up on the controls our second time playing). It has a somewhat unique (although not new) feature of switching to boat and airplane racing from time to time. I also really appreciate the ability to go through story mode with a buddy. It's the perfect story for a kart racing game: it has no story!!! That's how fun the racing is, you don't even care about any plot, you just want to continue unlocking courses with a friend. The only negative I can think of is the leveling up of characters: when I race against friends, I want to play them with us being equals, skills against skills, not level 10 character vs. level 1. Nonetheless, if you can race characters of similar skill levels, it won't be a problem.Bottom line: If you're looking for a more modern racing game with excellent graphics, gameplay, and multiplayer opportunities, get this. One of the few kart racing games offered for the PS3!

The first Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing game was tons of fun! It was great to play with friends and each character felt different from the last because their vehicles and "all star" attacks were unique. Good for parties for sure. But the sequel is EVEN BETTER! The vehicles are all once again unique and delivers fast paced action. This time, in Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, the vehicles will change form depending on the racing conditions. The race will start on ground and then turn into a race in the water in which your car becomes a fast boat, and then shift again when a ramp or course sends you airborne into the sky for an airplane race! In most tracks this all happens within one race, and it's a great and fun addition to the action that was already there. Back again is the wonderful Sega soundtrack. Both games feature great soundtracks from tons of Sega games and the pickup items to use to either defend yourself or attack other players return. The "All Star" moves are just as cool as ever although some seem nerfed (in the first game Sonic becomes Super Sonic and dashes through everyone for about 10-12 seconds). The game is more fun than the first indeed, but it is not without difficulty. They stepped it up this time around and made the AI smarter and harder to handle so practice makes perfect! I definitely recommend buying this game not only for fans of the original game, but for fans that enjoyed Mario Kart, Crash Bandicoot Racing, and Diddy Kong Racing as well!

Love the game

I have had such great fun playing this game... I absolutely love it and most assuredly hope for a sequel sometime soon. This game offers a very challenging, robust, fast paced, and three dimensional gameplay in all its gameplay modes and overall action racing mechanics. The transformation elements greatly enhance the intensity and racing experience, preventing a dull and repetitive racing experience. The online play is wonderfully challenging and frenetic and the weapons choices are pretty good.That being said, there are some serious drawbacks that I think the developers need to fix, like the horrible collision glitches that can send you flying in the opposite direction causing you to forfeit any chance of winning the race. There are glitches in certain maps like Graffiti City and Shibuya Downtown that are frustrating to say the least when playing online. Some players online are mysteriously exempt from the 100 point rating penalty you incur when you quit a match. Even if the system freezes and needs to be restarted you lose 100 points which sucks if you're trying to ascend the ranks in the leaderboards.Notwithstanding all those problems, the game is great and in my opinion much better than Mario Kart.

Lots of different game modes. I was looking for something like Mario Kart and honestly this beats MK. Very long which is great, it is challenging keeps us entertained every time
