Great tool with all the right stuff
This is a great hammer drill! I did quite a bit of research and even tried two other brands before settling on this one. It has plenty of power and the right features to make it easy to use. Aside from Makita being a trusted brand with quality products there are two things about this hammer drill that I really like. First is the trigger lock. I used another brand hammer drill that didn’t have a trigger lock to pull up tile in a small 40 square foot bathroom. After finishing, my trigger fingers (yes I had to try and use multiple fingers to keep going) were sore for days. I swore I would never use another hammer drill without a trigger lock. Second is the drill/hammer dial. On the same tile demo project the other hammer drill had the dial on the left side of the body which is exactly where I wanted to put my hand to hold the drill when not using the detachable side handle. The dial would gradually get pushed out of the lock position and the chisel would then be able to rotate which meant I had to stop, reposition the chisel, turn the dial back to lock and work some more until it happened again. This model has the dial on the bottom of the body so it is out of the way for both right and left handed users. Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone.

High quality hammer drill
I used this tool to do the prep work to repair cracks and large chips in concrete sidewalks and my pool deck. It was the perfect size for that type of work. It worked perfectly and is another example of Makita power tools excellence. I recommend this tool to anyone. It is not lightweight and it is larger than an ordinary cordless type drill.

Great tool, Amazon service mediocre
I love this thing! Bought it to break up a tile bathroom floor with mortar bed, and I was done in two hours. Would've been even quicker if I hadn't had to stop and clean up as I went. I highly recommend this hammer. One caveat, though -- I had to order it twice. The person at Amazon who is in charge of labeling the inventory (or the person who pulled the order) apparently doesn't know a damned thing about tools (and/or can't read) -- the first time I ordered this I got a 3/8" battery powered angle drill (clearly labeled on the side of the box with pictures). Furthermore, having Amazon Prime does not help -- it still takes two more days to get the correct item after they screw it up, so plan your time for errors at Amazon.

Great for removing tile
I am 74 and was dreading the job of removing the ugly 18”x18” tiles in my bathroom. I bought a 3” wide bit to go with this hammer drill and started the job. Twenty five minutes later all the tile was up. Having the right tool makes even hard jobs easy. I have only used this drill in the “hammer only” position but if the “drill” and “drill and hammer” modes don’t work I have still gotten my money’s worth. Now on to my wife’s bathroom.

Love it!
Love it!! This Makita hammer drill has plenty of power. I was installing an aluminum pool fence and I had to drill (72) 3/8" holes 3" deep into concrete. The hammer drill did great. I love that it has multiple options such as hammer only, hammer drill, and drill only. I would definitely recommend this tool.

Get’s the job done!
Bought this tool to drill holes in a concrete floor for 1/2 inch wedge bolts. Drilled 125, 6 inch deep holes effortlessly. Makita is my got to brand for reliable, long lasting tools. Drill is easy to install and remove. Depth guide is a plus. Case is well made.

Just Right for the DIY User
This is the right tool for the DIY user, and professionals working on small to mid-size jobs. I like that it supports the use of SDS bits, pivoting positions easy with the 360 swivel handle, and a hard case for mobility purposes.
