Perfect for cat proofing your fridge!
I know most people buy this as a child lock- my cat is incredibly intelligent and curious and he's my baby. I was living in a small studio apartment and after a few months living there, I noticed my fridge would be opened in the middle of the night. For the first few nights, I thought I may have just not closed it correctly, but then after being 100% sure I closed it before going to sleep I decked I had to stay up to see what was happening. At 3AM in the morning, when my cats are zooming around the whole studio, I see Perseus (the smart one) sticking his paw under the fridge and slowly prying it open. He then jumps on top of the freezer section and pries the freezer open with his paw! I took out my laptop and ordered these that very night! They worked perfectly- and I set them up on the fridge where Perseus couldn't reach them with his paws since I know for a fact if he were to be able to reach them- he'd figure out how to unlock it and open the fridge again.

Unbeatably well designed and easy to use latch
We had bought another latch that we had to take out in two days because the gap between body and door of the refrigerator killed it and it lost adherence. Baby being relentless, we had to try another solution and this is how we came across this product. The latch comes with two extra pieces (it's a very easy one step even I could do!)to attain perfect attachment. In contrast to other latches I've seen and the one we discarded, this one latches automatically when you close the door. You do not have to remember to close it. This is HUGE as otherwise it's simply impractical and it losses effectiveness. Also, the mechanism to open is the simplest you can conceive. The second day you have it installed you just push with the thumb of the hand you use to open the refrigerator in a natural motion that still leaves the second hand FREE! (other latches require you use both hands to open them!). Finally, it has a mechanism to avoid closing if you want to leave the refrigerator unlatched (e.g. you have guests who are not used to it). These four features (i.e. two extra pieces for perfect alignment, automatic closing, simplest possible opening, and closure blocking) make this latch unbeatable. It's so simple and so fantastic. It's one of those designs that make you want to hug and thank whoever designed it. We buy from Amazon everything from diapers to flat panel displays and this is the first time I write a review (good or bad). The issue is that this simple and cheap latch is so brilliantly designed, executed, and crafted that I wanted to reward the company that makes it with a strong endorsement. Silly but true that my first review is about a petty latch but it's one of those simple things that make life easier, much easier.

Great Concept, Poor Execution
I bought this product to help us assure that we properly close the door of our freezer that we keep in our garage. It worked very well for a couple of days and then, it broke. So I installed the second of the two locks that I ordered. The second lock didn't even last for a day as the latch doesn't work. This lock is a great idea, easy to install and comes with clear instructions. Unfortunately, it fails to do its job, rendering it useless.

Keeping Dogs out of the Fridge
I bought this to keep the dogs out of the refrigerator.... As they've opened it and gone to town a few times. The installation was very easy, it's just a matter of cleaning and sticking the lock to the door and refrigerator body and letting it cure for a day.The first sticky thing began to slide on the refrigerator body about a week after installation.I applied the second booster-adhesive pad and it seems to be working fine now.The lock easy to operate with one hand and it hasn't made opening the refrigerator a hassle at all. There has been one instance where the dogs got in the fridge after the lock was installed, but I think the lock had not fully caught and latched before I left the house.I'd definitely buy this again. A cheap simple fix has saved my groceries and leftovers.I gave this 4 out of 5 because the first adhesive pad didn't stay put. I'm not sure of the longevity of this product. I think eventually the latch might wear out after so much wear and tear.

One flaw
We've gone through half a dozen of these locks over the last couple of years. They are the sturdiest fridge locks I could find, short of bolting a padlock set up to the fridge. But they do have one major flaw. The lock holds by a tiny little plastic lip on the latch, and that little lip isn't a molded piece of the latch, but glued on. Well. One good pull from an adult guest who can't figure out why the fridge won't open, or the determined day after day yanks of a little toddler, and eventually that little lip breaks off, and there goes the whole set up. Very frustrating, but a single latch will last a few months, and is still the best I can find for this class fridge lock.Remember to wash the fridge edge well and clean with alcohol before you apply the latch. Then it stays stuck. Never had the glue come off.

A life-saver!
Our two year-old stared opening the refregerator door all the time and pulling things out, and then our baby would crawl over and also get involved. We got this latch and it is fantastic. It was easy to install, it's easy to use, and it is very sturdy and well built. It does not slow you down at all when opening the fridge, and if you palce it right, the trigger to open it will fall easily to hand when you grip the handle of the door. You can also disable to lock feature when you want to. Spacers are provided in case your fridge door and frame are not exactly lined up. The adhesive used is very strong: before getting used to this lock being there, I've often given the door a good tug and the lock has always held.We have bought a lot of child safety products, and this is defintiely at the top of the heap in terms of quality.UPDATE: After over a month of use, the latch is still performing like new with no signs of wear, despite constant opening and closing of the fridge door.
