When used WITHOUT pump, does water go in bucket before draining out by gravity into garden hose? Or does it bypass & leave bucket dry like older model

I live in a one level house, so I don’t use the hose. I just empty the bucket when it’s full.

Does the pump have the power to drain upward out my basement ?

Depends on how high...mine is pumping up 6 feet just fine
