Well written, clear explanations, great history, concise, focused on what’s important. I don’t know if I can say enough about this one. Just a joy to read.

The Hurry up and the Hoodie
if you are a football fanatic and want to learn the strategy and tactics of todays and yesterdays best coaches you should read this book by Chris Brown. This is a collection of chapters focusing on different aspects of offense and defense and how different coaches attack the weaknesses of various formations and players. You will read about the spread offense, no huddle offense, packaged plays and defensive blitz packages. There are chapters on Chip Kelly, Bill Belicheck, Al Davis and Nick Saban among others. There are drawings to explain various offense and defensive formations. If you are a fan who wants to go deeper than the TV presentation of the game or a coach who wants to pick up some good strategies than you will find this book worth your while. It is an intelligent look at the game of football. Recommended.

Learn about football via this work. . . .
This book is a lot of fun--and educational, too. The book speaks to the evolution of the passing game and the major schools thereof (e.g., West It also speaks Coast offense). The volume also speaks to defensive elements, such as Nick Saban's approach as well as Bill Belichek. Both college and professional football are catalogued. We learn about Baylor's high octane offense, different defensive schemes, and learn quite a bit about the language used by coaches.I've bee following football since first grade (in the days of Ed Brown and Harlan Hill of the Chicago Bears). I wish I had had access to this work many years ago!Lots of fun AND educational. . . .

Chris Brown has mastered the art of smart football writing
Chris Brown has a gift for talking about football-related topics and personalities at a level that is a lot deeper, more insightful, and more interesting than what you are going to hear on TV. I am a high school football coach and an avid reader, so I have a library of football coaching books, but this is not like those. Brown picks a topic of interest and dives in, but it's not a how-to book as much as it's the written musings of an intelligent football junkie who is sharing what he has learned. The book is more or less a collection of essays, most of which came from his online website (which is also very much worth your time). If you like football, and you like to read, take a look at this book.

Three Stars
It's an interesting read, but isn't as detailed as his first book.

Smart football, and even smarter author.
Fantastic book. The writing is clear and concise, and without using too many x's and o's Chris B. Brown perfectly elucidates many of the more occulted and intricate concepts at work on the modern football field. While the casual, ball-watching NFL fan might not appreciate the material presented, the writing style is nonetheless easily accessible to all readers. Heck, even my old mom, who has only just started watching football, loves Mr. Brown's work.

Smart Football for casual fans
Chris Brown is a great writer who manages to make football strategy accessible to the more casual fan. While Brown's knowledge of various strategies are as strong as anyone else's his work strives to bring the masses in.If you are somewhat interested in different strategies and their history you should read this. If you're looking for something more comprehensive this probably isn't the book for you. Regardless it's still a very good read.
