Great folding trap - caught a lot of crawfish
I bought a couple of these for a fishing trip to Northern Minnesota. I used this for crawfish and it worked very well. The screen is nylon so it will not hold up like the metal traps, but it folds up very well and should last me a while since I'm only using them one week per year. The traps caught a ton of crawfish and they didn't seem to escape. After using the traps for a few days, they did start to show signs of wear but no holes or anything that caused serious issues. That is, until an 18" snapping turtle found his way into on of the traps. The turtle messed the trap up bit. I was amazed that the trap held the turtle and the trap was still repairable after I got the turtle out (not fun).Overall, I would definitely buy these traps again.

but great for short term use
Caught 2 or 3 crabs per hour. Also found shrimp and these little fish in there sometimes. Left it out overnight and crabs chewed through the mesh. Not heavy duty, but great for short term use. We only needed it for a week. Would buy again if I only needed it for a few days.

GREAT CRAW FISH TRAP
The clips for closing the trap can be better designed, but if you use cable ties, you will never get your catch escape. It happens, when your trap hit the water surface if the clips are not completely snag, they will open and all crawfish coming into will have opportunity to came out! Bait mesh has the same problem, but cable ties will resolve the issue. This product still deserves 5 stars because it is very roomy, it is very light, it is very affordable, and it is very effective.

Good concept, but lightly built.
To start, it does catch crabs. I used it several times. I wish it is build with heavier frame. Absolutely need stronger netting. I used it a few times. Once left the cage overnight. Found no crab the next day, the net is torn by crabs. The bait holder is torn apart with no bait left either. Even with a few holes here and there, I am still catching crabs with it. Just don't leave the trap for too long.

Jacksonville Blue Crab. Yes they work.
I live in Jacksonville Florida and I decided to buy two crab traps that I could place on the back of my kayak. I can buy steel traps but they are large and heavy and I would not be able to put then on my kayak and be safe so I decided to buy these collapsible traps. I put my kayak in the water and placed both of the traps on the back (with rope and floats) and I didn't even know there were back there. I found a spot that I thought would be perfect to place my traps and reached around and grabbed the first one. It is easy to set up. All you have to do it fold two parts of the trap together and secure them with 3 clips (would like the clips to be more sturdy but I tied my rope by the middle clip so no worries of it opening up when in the water), tied my rope with float to it, and threw it in the water. The trap comes with a mesh back made so you can put your bait in it and it hangs in the middle of the trap off of the bottom. I used squid for my bait and I left for the day (set the traps around 4pm). I came out the next morning and pulled the first trap. The trap contained 2 blue crabs and I went to the other trap and it contained 1 blue crab. So for my first outing with my kayak and these traps I caught 3 blue crabs and my wife gobbled them down. I also put the traps in off of a dock and tied it to the end (looks like they designed it to tie on the end) and I stared to pull it up and there were another two blue crabs in it after 10 minutes but the way the trap lifted out of the water allowed for the crabs to fall out (10 feet off the water) so my advise to to tie the rope in the middle of the trap. Not only will it prevent the crabs from falling out but it will add extra security from the trap opening. I can see these traps lasting at least a year with moderate use. I will buy them again.

I am sooooooo disappointed, as are my children
I am sooooooo disappointed, as are my children. This trap is just dreadful. If you truly want to catch crabs, spend more money and buy something studier. The crabs have chewed their way through the nylon mesh in order to escape on just our SECOND day of casual/recreational use. The trap was in maybe 3 feet of water (at high tide), in a marshy area of the North Carolina Intracoastal waterway. On the first day, we had eight undersized crabs after just a few hours. We threw the trap back in overnight to see if we could catch some "keepers". By morning, EVERY SINGLE ONE of the crabs had escaped. Second day. . .we used two chicken drumsticks as bait. The trap was in the water for less than four hours. In that time, the crabs chewed three holes in the mesh, took BOTH chicken legs, bones and all, and escaped. Buy something else. Trying to figure out if I can return this horrible product since it never even came closing to performing. I'm not sure how anyone got this trap to work. . . .especially if one actually had crabs in it that were big enough to keep/eat.

Effective if you check them often.
It is true that these traps are light weight and easy to store and pack. However with the nylon webbing I would not recommend these for leaving unattended. Their design is effective at bringing in the crabs, but not retaining them. The first couple of times I tried them I left them in place for several hours. Each time I found them empty. At first I thought I just wasn't leaving them in an area where crabs were abundant even though there were commercial traps in the area. Then on examination I found a cut in the webbing on both traps. The crabs had simply made their own exit point. After that I did my best to patch the hole on the boat and put them back in the water a few hundred yards from a pier where people were catching crabs with two ring nets. I checked them after about 15 or 20 minutes and had crabs in the traps that hadn't yet escaped. On this one trip to the beach it certainly would have been cheaper to buy the crabs locally. Next time I use them I'll just keep checking them. Eventually I'll replace them with a heavier duty crap pot that I can leave over night.

Great for price and convenient for travel or unexpected trips
Great for price and convenient for travel or unexpected trips. Lasted 4 days constantly under water. Trapped few douzen crabs w it. On the 5th day the crabs got smart and cut holes in it and escaped. The wire its made with isnt very durable... Over all 👍🏼
