Cavallini Roma Lussa Journals Chocolate 6 x 8, 416 Softbound Leather

I've been looking for a way to record my thought and especially my dreams for awhile. My only stipulations were that the journal had to be masculine, well made, and have at least 365 pages, this journal hit all the right spots. The journal is real leather (unlike some), it has over 400 pages, and it's sturdy and feels good to hold. It has old work charm and its something you can be proud to have on your desk or beside your bed. I'm a fountain pen user and the pages are perfect for writing with a fountain pen. They pages have some weigh to them, definitely thicker than standard notebook paper.There are only two downsides and according to the person they may not be downsides at all.1) The journal is tightly bound, I think it will stand up to anything but it does not open and lay flat. You have to put some effort into keeping it open as you write.2) There are no lines, I actually made myself a lined sheet as a outline simply because Im anal and if I didn't my writing would be everywhere. Once again not a huge deal but something to be aware of. For a person that likes to write and draw this is perfect.All in all I give this journal 5 stars, it's not cheap but it's well worth the money because I believe it will last!

I purchased this as a graduation gift for one of my Senior English students. This journal is absolutely beautiful. The leather is rather thick (quality) and the smell of the leather is amazing. I think that the most beautiful part of the journal is the paper; each page is thick and will not allow ink to bleed through. The edging of the pages is marvellous. What I really like about the edging is that the process for creating the colored edges is so unique that no two journals are alike; each one is a one of a kind. That really makes it a special item for gift giving.One of the other things that I really liked about this journal, over all the other options out there, was that it does not have a metal binder inside. I thought that there were far more interesting looking journals (far more elaborate in cover designs and textures), however, those other journals all had metal binder clips inside the covers to hold pages. I've never been the type of person to write in a journal and then take the pages out when I've filled it up. I would just buy a new journal and keep the other one in my personal library. I just find that the metal binders inside of leather journals are tacky and they defeat the purpose of having a leather bound journal.I've always been a traveller; I've been all over Europe and even south of the border to several Central and South American countries. As an English teacher, I fit the stereotype, I love to write. While travelling I always write about my adventures and then post them to my blog. This particular student is going to be travelling the world after graduation so, I wanted to give them the means by which to record their travels in style. This journal is by far the best option on Amazon. These are a bit pricey but, the Amazon price is great for what you will pay for them elsewhere.

Garbage. I received an item that is nothing like the item pictured or described. I received a 5 x 7, not a 6 x 8. It has maybe 200 pages at most- not 400+ pages. The page edges are white, not marbled. The leather looks cheap. So disappointed and angry that I spent so much on an item that is nothing like what I ordered.

For years I have been looking for that one distinctive journal that is similar to what you would see in the movies. Something historic...something legendary. I have finally found it, and this is it. This journal is made entirely by hand in Florence, Italy for Cavallini & Co. in San Francisco, CA. I purchased the 6" X 8" size, in chocolate, which has a rich, warm chestnut tone. It is permanently-bound with a stitching technique just like a Bible. The cover is a thick, luxurious high quality leather that wraps around the edge of the pages for over 3", then has a 31" leather 1/4" wrap-around tie-down strap that secures the cover shut. It has a wonderful leather aroma. There are 2 card-stock end-pages inside each cover, and features 175 sheets (or 350 pages) of thick Italian woven unlined paper whose edges are enhanced by a stone marbling technique that gives each journal a different individual pattern. Just the pages are over an inch thick, making it one of the biggest journals available. If you're looking to buy someone a truly unique journal that they will proudly carry around, and could become a family heirloom- this is it! This is a truly beautiful journal that I am very impressed with. Although it's a bit pricey, how can you put a value on something that will inspire you to new heights. For a gift, or for yourself, you won't go wrong with this one.

I actually received the wrong product (5x7), but it definitely was a welcomed error. I had not noticed this until I received my recent addition, which I decided to get in the black (6x8). Upon receipt, I had to double-check my orders to ensure that I had not done something wrong; however, I was not in error. I received not only the wrong size but also the wrong color (not a welcomed error). I had ordered this in the chocolate and received it in the tan. I give it three stars, but I still feel that the product is great value for the money, given the paper is nice and thick coupled with the 416-page count.

This is the journal I have used for over twelve years. It goes everywhere with me. The quality and workmanship is superb and remanissant of days gone by. The leather used is of high quality, and is soft and durable. The paper is similar to quality stationery; heavier than you will find in most journal. It is sewn and well bound. I love that the pages are blank. I can write, draw or sketch; limited only by my imagination. The price is higher than most. I had my last one for over twelve years and will definitely purchase this journal again. It is worth every penny.
