It reminds me of the 70s with Henry Cooper, the 3 day week, strikes everywhere, the country in crisis… 50 years later not a lot has changed.. this is still a good manly smell so slash it all over as the late, great, Henry would say

This was an item purchased for our dad, but I will do my best to review it!The aftershave arrived very promptly, and was adequately packaged in a cardboard box stuffed with bubble wrap. The aftershave bottle itself doesn’t come in a presentation box though, just the packaging for being sent through the post, so people buying this as a present might be disappointed. The bottle is made from clear glass and the aftershave is brown - I was expecting it to be green for some reason, but maybe I’ve seen it in a green bottle before. The bottle doesn’t have atomizer, so you can put it onto your face after shaving (although I’m told it really, really, stings if you do that) but an atomizer might have been useful for people who want to put it under their arms, for example. (Our dad says that there isn’t any need for me to talk about the bottle not having an atomizer, because everyone knows that you’re supposed to “splash it all over your body” because that was the phrase used in a popular TV advert for Brut aftershave with Henry Cooper. But then our dad said that since the advert ran in the late 70s or early 80s I might not know who Henry Cooper was. I said that I think I do know who Henry Cooper was, and that wasn’t he a magician who wore a fez and all his magic tricks went wrong, but from the look of shock and pain on our dad’s face, I don’t think that could have been the right answer after all.) The aftershave has a reasonably strong smell, so you don’t have to use loads of it. Our dad says that the fragrance lasts well, and even having put it on in the morning, having worked all day and come home, it still lasts, in fact he could still smell it on him after having a bath. My dad says that it smells the same as he remembers it smelling in the 80s, but I asked him to describe it for people who’ve never used it before. He says it smells a little bit like another aftershave he uses called Old Spice, but sweeter and a bit more “chemically” than Old Spice. He says that what the smell really reminds him of, is when he was a child, children would sometimes be given a bottle of “Bubble Mixture” - when you unscrewed the lid, the lid had a stick with a loop in it which you dipped into the bottle full of Bubble Mixture and then blew bubbles. My dad says that Brut smells like the Bubble Mixture. I don’t know, it seems to me that children weren’t given much to entertain themselves with in those days, and no wonder there were so many Public Information Films about not playing near water or on building sites, but our dad says that his generation were much more fortunate than mine and that we don’t know what we’ve missed...Anyway, I’m sorry my review had so much weird nostalgia in it, but I hope it was still useful, and in a way even the weird nostalgia was part of the experience of purchasing this product.

Good value for money

I realise that Brut aftershave is a very low cost item but l have used it for many years as a post shower or pre bedtime fragrance which my wife and myself are fond of. Usually l buy this at a local shop for a little over £5 per 100ml, but recently l purchased a 4 pack via Amazon, my fave store. Opening the pack l immediately noticed the content was much paler than l am used to and while the splash on fragrance isn’t so bad, it then immediately disappears. I have written to the seller via Amazon and received an offer of 30% discount to placate me, and will reply to the seller that that was not my reason for asking about this product, l just want to know what is going on. Is it old stock being moved on in bulk? Perhaps l will purchase another one-off locally to compare. I will add to this after l receive yet another reply from the seller. Well, we’ll, wouldn’t you know, according to Amazon the Zu Store that l suspect was Amazon, apparently cancelled their trading account with the big A and shot out of town. This has really reduced my confidence in Amazon…. Or perhaps just some of their employees. I see they now sell the same 4 pack of this 100% rubbish for £15, or an individual ORIGINAL Brut for £6, no offers. As regular customers of Amazon who give them 5 star reviews after almost every purchase, l’m not sure that relationship still exists.
