My new favorite lens
This is a great lens. The zoom range is ideal for my style, and on my APS-C camera it is the equivalent of 105-300. It has excellent autofocus on my Nikon D500 body and I appreciate the smooth background with the large f/2.5 aperture. The only down side is the size and weight of the lens (it's a beast!). Also the 82mm filter thread means you'll probably need to buy some new filters.

Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 sport
Have had a few days so far to test on a Nikon D500 and D810. The optical stabilization seems to work great and the AF is quick and responsive. The 4 attached shots were of moving objects (eagle and seaplane)..the others were shot from moving boat holding this very stout lens. I look forward to getting sharper and sharper as I learn this lens. No regrets that I did not purchase the Nikkor. I have other Sigma(Nikon) 50-100mm Art and Sony e-mount Sigma lenses... Impressed with quality and output of this amazing lens. Other reviewers have thoroughly addressed the weight and mounting ring issues. Do not seem to have and front or back focus issues with this lens on either body that require the USB dock.

Big calibration issues out of the box
I received a gray market copy. The auto focus was so far off on my Nikon D500 out of the box that I thought the lens was defective and sent it back. It was completely unusable, nothing was in focus. However, this appears to be a common issue, because I purchased another copy of the lens from another site and had the same issue. I ended up purchasing the Sigma dock and a calibration card and calibrating the lens to the camera body. It works great now, but those steps should not be necessary to render the lens usable. While I've gotten some great images since, my initial experience with this lens was very disappointing. Also, be warned, this lens is HEAVY. I didn't mind when I was using a monopod for outdoor sports, but the weight is very noticeable when hand holding it, even for a larger guy like me.

Best 70-200 on the market
Best 70-200 2.8 on the market right now. Focus is quick and quiet. Image quality is amazing. Took this picture and it got my eyes perfectly clear and my camera doesn’t have and eye focus capabilities. Absolutely love this lens.

Check Carefully For USA Warranty!
Upon opening the first thing I noticed was this was not a Sigma USA Warranty lens. So I was shipped a gray market lens not disclosed by this seller “Fast Ship Direct” in the description details on Amazon. Upon inspecting the optic elements from the mount end, there were numerous micro-bubbles in the glass. Not just one element, but all the elements as far down as one can see. I will be returning this lens tomorrow. Not a negative on Sigma, as my 150-600 Sport USA Warranty lens is a gem, and as a Nikon shooter for many years the only non-Nikon lens I own. My very old Nikon 70-200 2.8 needed upgrading, so I thought given the high quality images I get from the 150-600, why not the Sigma. Just beware to message these Amazon sellers to verify USA Warranty if not stated before you buy camera bodies and lenses from Amazon. This seller “Fast Ship Direct” is selling inferior quality Gray Market lenses. Or perhaps I got the one off?
