Great book for learning rhythm.
I'm an intermediate beginner on the guitar. This book has been most helpful.

Nice collection of blues rhythms. Audio tracks need work.
Agree with the previous reviewers that this is an excellent addition to the series, covering many blues and R&B style rhythm tracks. The main deficiency of this book is the backing tracks: the rhythm tracks are way too low in the mix, at times buried deep beneath the loud harmonica or lead guitar tracks, making it difficult to discern the notes.

A lot of good ideas.
I bought this book along with the other Blues You Can Use books and this is a good companion to the other books. I've gleaned a lot of ideas from this book for playing blues rhythm. I am more interested in being a solid rythym player than I am a soloist. When I pared this book up with the BYCU Chord book and the BYCU Jazz up your blues book, I have a ton of ideas and I'm doing things as a rythym player that causes heads to turn. I did discover that with these Ganapes books, you should spend about a week on each chapter, work on the exercises first and then work on the practice songs. This book presents just about every blues rythym imaginable and provides solid technical education about playings those rythyms. I have all the other books by John Ganapes, and they are all pretty damned good. I highly recommend going through this book. In a matter of a year, I've gone through the Blues You Can Use and the More Blues You Can use and the Jazz up Your Blues and this series of lessons has given me the technical knowledge to play blues, I just had to add a little of my own soul. Best educational material I've found on the blues.

Top Notch
I have purchased all of the John Ganapes books. Just learning how to play a few years ago, I bought "Blues You Can Use". Wow what a great book! I studied the lessons everyday. The book is wriiten in such a way, that the beginner can grasp what is being taught without becoming confused. The solos are a challenge at first (if you are a beginner like I was) but learning anything worthwhile is a challenge! I went through each lesson until I learned it. I then purchased all the additional books. Blues Rhythym You Can Use is a great book. I have learned a lot from this book. Like all of Ganapes books, it is well written, and presented in an intelligent easy to understand manner. If you spend time everyday and practice out of any and hopefully all of the Ganapes books, you WILL get a lot better, and be able to jam with other people. After having practiced with the Ganape books I can say with out a doubt that they are one of the best instructional tools you can use!!!

Another Good Addition to a Good Series
This book has given me a lot of good creative ideas for playing blues, and it has filled in some of the gaps I had about playing blues rhythm. I like the clear tables of contents in Ganapes' books, which let me skip around to a particular topic easily when I need to. It won't teach you to play "soulfully", as another reviewer complains, but no book can teach you that. It can give you a solid technical education about playing blues rhythm. I have all the other books by John Ganapes, and they are all pretty good. I recommend going through this book between Blues You Can Use, and More Blues You Can Use. An added bonus is the Blues You Can Use website, where you can ask the author questions concerning his books and playing the guitar in general. John Ganapes is an excellent resource for guitarists.

Great book for learning Blues rithms and compings
I have bought this book months ago, but I just started using it recently and I must say that I just regret not using it before as it gives you the required fundamentals for making the compings of your Blues improvisation. This book is easy to follow, so enjoy your Blues rithms jurney

Very Very Basic: Good For What It Is
This is good for the beginner level guitar student who has a lot of time alone and doesn't play in a band. The book illustrates some very simple blues rhythms in various different styles, mostly slow blues but a couple of faster upbeat blues rhythm riffs. There is some introductory level music theory included in the lessons. That's about it.I enjoyed it. It was fun. I don't think I learned a whole lot though.

Fits with other published books
I have many in this series of guitar books. I even use his website (occasionally), but I seem to go back to the first book(Blues You Can Use) more than any other training book I have.

Into the groove...
I have just started lesson 11 out of 21... far enough into the book to be sure John Ganapes and his publishers have maintained their previous record of real quality, both in terms of presentation and in terms of teaching. Each lesson has theory and exercises and then a piece to learn. Each piece is played twice on the accompanying CD, once with the rhythm guitar included and once with it excluded, the latter enabling you to play along with "the band". The first two pieces involve using "spread" patterns, but you then move on to using chords and chord fragments and I have to say I progressed pretty quickly. All the pieces so far, but especially from lesson 4 onwards, sound very cool, though quite a few have a slight blues/jazz feel (lots of 9th chords) rather than being straight blues... I think they sound great, but you may like to bear that in mind if you know that's not your thing.I started this book after completing John Ganapes' earlier books: Blues You Can Use (BYCU) and More Blues You Can Use (MBYCU). Now that this book has been published, I think (if you are going through the series) it probably best fits after BYCU, giving time for you to consolidate your lead skills from that while learning these rhythm ones, before moving on to the more challenging MBYCU. In all, the three books are a great set, but of course each stands independently too (MBYCU maybe slightly less so).Pace of progress so far has been satisfying good, especially after spending months on each lesson in MBYCU. This book also requires slightly less brain power, so I find it fits nicely into my practice regime, in which I try to do some technical exercises, learn some new lead and lead theory (that's where my brain begins to frazzle) and to re-play some pieces I already know... this rhythm book complements those other practice elements very well.Rhythm playing isn't the glamour end of the blues guitar world, but you'll always have an enormous gap if you don't tackle it. This book works for me: it's satisfying to progress steadily, it's (so far at least) not too intense and the pieces sound a million dollars. Half way through and I can't find anything critical to write... my one concern is whether (rather than just being able to play some nice pieces) I will be able to take away and apply the theory, always much trickier I find. Not the book for you if you want rock or metal, nor if you are a complete beginner. But if you like blues with perhaps a hint of jazz then it is certainly accessible to you as an advanced beginner or a very early intermediate, and there's plenty in there for those who are more advanced. It is ideal if you have BYCU under you belt, but that's not a necessity. Enjoy!

You Will Learn
I have been tinkering with blues guitar for years without a great deal of progressto be honest but at last, something that actually does teach you blues guitar. This entire series, not just this individual book, is definitely worth buying ifyou seriously want to progress, whether a beginner/intermediate or advanced player.Of course, like learning any style or instrument, it takes work, but Ganapes puts itacross in a way that makes it achievable.Impressive.
