Essential reading
This translation has tremendously deepened my understanding of Christ's core sermon. I use it for my own edification and for leading small groups. Its insights are profound. It helps bring unity to all the classic spiritual traditions. A true compass for Soul development. A seriously important read for everyone.

Great read for a searching Christian.
For me this was a meaningful, external view of Jesus' sermon on the mount. Looking at my faith from another's perspective deepens my understanding of God - an omniscient, omnipotent entity.

Better than the original?
Emmet Fox wrote the original and it is truly an amazing book. There's nothing wrong with having to read and re-read each paragraph to get the meaning of a text and it can be very satisfying. His writing style is to cover several very complex ideas in one heck of a long sentence with a huge impact, when understood. This "Sermon on the Mount According to Vedanta is much clearer and more to-the-point, while still delivering a message that shakes your foundation. I don't know anything about Vedanta, but I do know people who do and I admire their dedication to seeking the truth. Is this version better than the original? No, because it starts from a different place, but it certainly rocked my world and deserves a look if you are a "seeker" too.

It will touch your heart and soul.
I found this book (or this book found me, I'm not sure) in paperback form in a tiny bookstore in a Catholic Church in Augusta Maine back in 1987. don't know how many times I've read it. It never gets old. This little gem is one I turn to often. It puts the teachings of the Christ into a new perspective, breaking forth like a lotus. For over 30 years this has been one of my absolutely best turn-to books. It will touch your heart and soul.

Very well done
It's always interesting to see the outsider's view of something you have come to understand in one certain way; to see it through fresh eyes can make it new again. This book is a superb example of exactly that. It is probably impossible to come away from this book without a whole series of new insights, no matter how many times you may have read the Sermon on the Mount or how well you think you understand everything in it.This book also serves to make the point that some of these Eastern swamis and gurus are scholars and thinkers of the first order. It really is a shame that our view of them often has been tainted by the antics of the charlatans and hustlers that came west beginning in the 1960s to exploit their own religious traditions for personal gain. If that has been your prejudice, Prabhavananda's book will be something of a revelation. Not to be missed.

best book I've ever read!!
This book is the most beautiful, touching, enlighting book I've ever had the upmost pleasure to read. None of the other hundreds of books about the Divine that I have read even come close to the simple, elegant, beauty of this book. I have filled a whole pack of notecards writting down "favorite" quotes, that really touch me, so many quote its practically the whole book. The writting is so easy to understand, and the examples so realivant, the reader feels like the book was written just for them.If you only ever read one book, make it this one!!!!!

Yogic perspectives on Christ
I'm sort of initiated practitioner of yoga myself, but I'm also thoroughly Christian in my world view after all. From that perspective, I find most of this text disappointing. There is, after all, no real understanding by the Yogi of Christianity. The author is totally locked in his own realization of the Sermon on the Mount. I didn't find it particularly helpful but someone else might.
