Great D Tuner
Installed it on a Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster. Doesn’t match the other tuners perfectly but real close. Easy to install, had to add one tiny hole. If the instructions aren’t good enough for you to install this you should probably take it to someone with a higher skill level than you. Lube your nut & it won’t come back sharp on the E. Works great so far. A fraction of the cost of a banjo d tuner & works just as well. I was worried the lever would be in the way of my hand while in D but it will fold down out of the way of the neck.

Works for Acoustic (ish)
I recommend the locking version for easy restringing on acoustic. There was not a lot of room for extra windings on the Taylor I put it on.It has stayed in tune very well and is awesome for gigs. The different size tuning key isn’t very noticeable and easy to get used to.Pro tip: when tuning or adjusting flip the lever back and forth before reading what the tuner says.

Quick and easy jump to altered tuning
I've wondered for years how well these work--and now I'll wonder for years WHY I waited so long to try it. If you've ever struggled to tune your acoustic guitar † while the drummer incessantly hits the snare or the bassist tunes at earth-shattering volume, you'll agree this little dude is a godsend! If you play a mix of standard tuning and drop-D (or drop-anything ††), buy this and install it. You'll thank me.A HUGE benefit while playing live,††† the switch from standard to drop-D or back can be done in literally half a second. The calibration occasionally needs a tweak when you're in a new environment--e.g. a significantly colder room, changed strings--but it's immensely faster to switch on the fly than a regular tuning peg...I've used it even in the middle of a song! The installation is easy, though prior guitar work experience is assuredly a plus. I took a bit with the first one, wanting to nitpick every detail out of paranoia for ruining my instrument--however it's a pretty basic installation; anyone who's changed pickups or un-bolted the neck will find this a breeze.I've purchased four HipShot tuners in the past two years, and on every one I've had to temporarily remove the 5th tuning peg for enough room during installation, but do it with a string change and just have #5 and #6 off at the same time.DRILLING:I've also had to drill a small hole for three of the four, to accommodate the mounting screw. Hold the thing steady, measure five times, mark your spot, take a deep breath--it'll be fine. Don't drill too deep.My acoustic has a HipShot with two stops (you'll need the extra kit, but it's an easy addition); it sits at E and also drops to D or C (mostly for playing John Mayer's "Neon").NOTES (no pun intended):I got my other HipShots on eBay; this is the first from Amazon. I haven't had time to install it (this one is for my new B-Bender!), but it looks exactly like the others AFA appearance and quality. I'll subsequently edit as appropriate.-=EDIT=-It installed just fine, unsurprisingly.Since the tuner reduces tension on your 6th string when activated, it will affect all the others if you have a floating bridge (vibrato bar). Obviously, this shift will be the same whether you use a lever tuner like this or merely tune manually--but keep in mind. I don't buy guitars with whammy bars anymore, because I never used the ones I had. Tuning is so much better without them--and the HipShot raised the bar (yuk yuk) that much higher.† this model is for electric guitars, but HipShot makes an acoustic tuner as well.†† Not sure how viable this would be on a seven-string, but I expect it would be fine. It'd certainly change the dynamic between six and seven. You'd likely need to remove #5 and #7 pegs to install on six (yeah, with seven strings you've already got a low D--but you can't drone the open D without a capo, so it's still plausible). On seven, you'd be sCaRy LoW.††† of course it's simpler as well when you're playing at home.

Hipshot Xtender is great for going between standard and drop tunings.
Best solution I have found for fast and accurate drop tuning for a song or section of a song. I use this on electric, but I was introduced to the Hipshot Xtender by an acoustic guitar player. It features extensively in his recordings and performances.

Easy installation and indispensable…
I have these installed on my main telecaster and one of my acoustics. Super handy for drop D stuff…

Drop d tuning- in tune- on the sly!
I've used HIPSHOT Guitar Extender Keys over the years on a multitude of Telecasters for on the fly drop-D tuning- I have to say they work great! Always in tune, never a need to retune at the end of the song. Keep your set list flowing smoothly with this high-quality, simple installation, quality direct replacement for Fender style mini(Schaller) tuning gears. Easy use makes this a must have for me-highly recommended!

sometimes difficult to tune
I ordered the wrong style but it arrived quickly. The laborious task of tuning both the E and D positions of the 6th string is often times not long standing..

Can't tune it
Great idea if it worked. I drilled a hole in my guitar only to find the tuning accuracy was not there.Tuned the guitar to A 440. Tried several attempts at tuning between E and D. Used the tuner for drop D and it was out of tune. Return to E and the E string is way sharp. Get the E string in tune and the drop D goes out. Get the D string in tune and the E string goes out. I am not a rookie and spent hours on my guitar before writing this review.
