I had bought several airsoft AEGs second hand and they came with a mish-mash of different batteries and chargers. Some 8.4v some 9.6v, some NiCd some NiMH. All of the included chargers were slow (5-6 hours) and none of them had auto-shutoff. It was a nightmare trying to remember which charger went with which battery, then waiting hours for them to charge, and hoping you didn't forget to unplug them before they overheated and exploded. With this Tenergy Universal Smart Charger, all my headaches are gone! It automatically detects the battery chemistry and voltage and works no matter which battery I plug in! Batteries also charge lightining fast in 30-60 minutes! It also automatically switches down to trickle charging when it detects the battery is full, and it has a temperature sensor to shutoff if the battery ever gets too hot. And as an added bonus, it turns out it also worked with my son's RC car batteries. Convenience, versatility, speed, and peace of mind - all for less than $20!

Many different adapters makes this thing a great charger. Also adjustable amperage is great for battery longevity. It is used for my sons airsoft batteries and he loves it. No more watching the clock to make sure you don't over charge batteries. Only thing missing is battery discharge. If that was included I would give it 5 stars.

If you have need for a nimh/nicad battery charger for 6v-12v batteries ranging from 1000-5000mah then this is definitely a charger to consider. With two charging speeds, 1a or 2a, to choose from this fits a variety of needs. I use it to charge a 9.6v 2000mah nimh pack and on the 2a speed it takes about 1 hour. This does use a Tamiya style connector but does come with micro-tamiya and alligator clip converter. If you need something with another connector this still may be a good options if it would be eaper to buy this and then the tamiya>whatever you need converter than a charger with the connector that you need. This charger is indeed a smart charger. It will read if/when your battery is full and stop the charge at that point. It will also sense damage to the battery and has a sensor to check for an overheating battery and will shut off charging if those conditions are detected. All of this for under $20? Tremendous value.

I've used the charger exclusively for a Tenergy 9.6V 2000mAh NiMH battery pack so far, for an RC car application. Charging has been quicker than expected. The LED's make it clear when the unit is charging, and when the charge is complete. Charging is reportedly safe, with a switch to trickle charging or maybe just a cut-off when fully charged. There is a temperature sensing lead that is supposed to contact the battery casing to insure against overheating. While the sensor provides additional safety and adds to the battery life, it is a bit of a pain to set it up to maintain the proper contact. I still have a heavy clear plastic wrap around the battery pack, so I slip the sensor lead between the outer plastic wrap and the plastic wrap the holds the batteries together. If I have to remove that outer wrap, or it breaks, I would probably rest the battery on top of the probe, even if that may increase the heat reading.I've only charged on the lower, 1.0Amp setting. That charged the 2000mAh battery from where the car would show little/no signs of life, though perhaps not fully discharged, in an hour or so. Comes with multiple connector options, though the default connector matches my current battery pack. I'm very happy overall with the charger.

I just got into RC racing and my first attempt to charge my NICD battery was very confusing. I hooked up my original charger and noticed that the battery got very hot, and I had no idea of when to disconnect the battery. Furthering my frustration it seems that NICD batteries have a "memory" that remember where the battery left off. This is important because if you run your battery down to 20% and then try and charge it, it will only charge to 20% the next time.This battery charger allows me to work with batteries how I'm used to, with a red not charged and a green fully charged indicator, with a protection built in to not overcharge. I noticed immediately the batteries lasted longer, were not hot on charging, and essentially worked like most of the batteries we all use daily.A very positive benefit of this charger is that it charges very quickly, and allows you to choose the appropriate charging depending on the MAH rating.I'm very happy with this charger compared with the stock charger that came with my NICD battery.

Inexpensive and very handy to use for multiple applications.
