How is the sound quality when you are talking to someone? Can you hear the other side clearly without and extra noises and static?

I have had no problem clearly hearing the other side and I am no young chicken !

I don't know because it was a gift My 97 year old mother can hear on it much better than a more modern model.

No. To mute a landline, you unplug it from the wall. Plug it back in when you are finished with your nap.

Does this phone need a landline?

That is what I use it for. Everyone needs a land line if the power goes out a cordless will not work. And if you have a medical emergency and power is out you may need this.
