Terrific game - can use as original Blokus game or with added the new twist element
We have both the original Blokus and Blokus Duo, the smaller, two-player version. I gave Blokus Shuffle as a gift to my partner after seeing some people playing it at a coffee shop and I'm glad that I did. It includes the exact same hardware as the original Blokus game, and although the instructions do not include specifics on how to play it that way, it is fully functional. We used it that way to help some friends learn the game easily without introducing the new gameplay mechanics on them right away. The cards are the new twist on the game. You'll have two in your hand at any given moment which you can choose from and they allow for the performance of normally illegal moves (laying two pieces side-by-side, sharing an edge) or totally new ideas (swapping an opponents piece to somewhere else on the board). There are a limited number of cards and each player has their own identical deck which makes the whole game more balanced than it otherwise would be.The game is optimized for being usable in multiple international locations so there are no words on the cards in the deck. Some of the icons are pretty clear about what they're instructing you to do, but other's we had to continually reference back to the instructions packet in order to understand the requirements of the cards in our hand. The instruction packet was also formatted to include multiple other languages but in such a way that it made it difficult to fold and isolate the english language instructions. Not a huge frustration, but it wasn't pleasant trying to make it work. It had no effect on the gameplay, however. As a gift this game is terrific. If you have the original Blokus you can gift that away to someone else or donate it because you won't need it anymore if you're keeping this one for yourself. Well worth the price, in my opinion.

The Best Blokus
Really fun little game. We enjoy it with the whole family. It’s Blokus, just with more options!

A tad confusing
There are directions that are helpful, however we are very analytical and asked very detailed questions that could not be answered. We adjusted and declared rules with more details as needed. More challenging than original but not quite what we thought with Uno, as no Uno or last card or piece rule was there. Still very fun and glad we got this for our family Christmas game. We enjoyed it!

Flexibility
Given as a gift but I love the fact that it can be played like original Blokus, without the additional UNO cards. The cards just add another level of play, one that may be helpful for young children who need help? The family to whom it was given has a 5 year old boy who sometimes struggles with the concept of connecting your colors one way and with other players’ colors differently. His parents have chosen not to use the UNO cards, but to continue to work through the basic instructions with him. So I don’t know if the UNO cards would have helped, just that you can play regular BLOKUS with this particular game.

I Won a Game!!
I love Uno. I like Blokus, but I have never won a game of any other version of the game (original, Trigon, 3D) because my husband is a master at the visual planning required. The first game of Blokus Shuffle was very fun and he won. The second time we played, I won. Our 9 year old and 12 year old sons enjoy it, too. At first one was reluctant to play because he isn't an Uno fan. He enjoyed the first game and was resilient enough to complete the second game. This is one good skill that games like this can teach. As one of the cards allows you to warp (relocate) another players piece while another let's you play like you are a different color (wild). Both of these actions can be upsetting when you have planned out your moves. It's all part of the fun and unpredictability that I love about this version. The kids just need to be reminded that it's not a personal attack and it's all part of the game. That is a great lesson for out boys. As with all versions of Blokus, I would recommend being cautious with the pieces so that younger kids and cats (or other pets) don't run off with the pieces as these are unique and not easily replaceable.

Fun!!
My in-laws love playing boardgames, so we tried adding this to the mix. It's the right amount of strategy and randomness that you won't know who wins until close to the end. I've never played the original blokus, but after playing this variation, I don't believe we will play the original blokus game.Once you understand the rules, the game is pretty simple. You can't strategize too many plays, since your opponents have cards to shake up the board. It keeps you engaged throughout the game, without lasting too long. It's now a permanent fixture in our house.
