Works great and easy to install, but you may need to tweak your tv settings.
I have been using wireless speakers with my tv since we switched from tube tv's all those years ago. They aren't surround sound, they just give me more volume than flat screen tv's do. I just bought a new Samsung 4K Ultra Smart tv and it didn't have a traditional audio output for my speakers. It has something called digital audio out (optical). Translation it has digital instead of analog(traditional) output so the normal red & white cables that would plug into your tv won't work alone. That's where this little box comes in. It's really simple to install. It comes w a cable that is identical on both ends. One end plugs into the digital audio out port on the tv and the other end plugs into this box. Then u plug your traditional red & white analog cables into the correlating red and white ports on this box. Just a heads up the box does need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Once I connected everything it seemed to be working well, but then I switched from satellite to blue-ray and my speakers stopped playing sound and started making static sounds instead. I followed the instructions another reviewer posted about tweaking the tv settings. Go to settings, then sound, then sound output and choose audio out optical--then go to expert settings---HDMI Audio Format=Bitstream, then go to Audio Format=PCM. When I followed those instructions my speakers worked in every input, blue-ray, fire stick etc. However, the speakers on the tv no longer worked. We prefer to have both the tv speakers and the wireless speakers working together so I went back to the sound settings and sound output and switched it back to tv speaker from audio out/optical and the sound now comes out of the tv speakers and my wireless speakers so I have total control. It took longer to write this review than to hook it up and make the changes. I'm very happy to have my speakers back after 2 days without them. This box is exactly as described on Amazon.

Does what it's supposed to do at a great price
I'm using this little DAC so I can get the audio from my Roku to my old Denon receiver. I use the optical digital output from my TV into this little box and a regular stereo interconnect into my receiver. This DAC only handles PCM stereo, so you have to make sure the TV is set to output PCM stereo from the digital output. Doing this varies with different makes of TV, but the control is there in the audio settings, you just have to find it for your TV.Once hooked up with the proper TV settings, this works like a charm. The output is a little low, meaning that I have to turn up the receiver's volume a bit more than when listening to the output from my cable box, but that's what volume controls are for. Sound is pretty good, especially for a $14 DAC.The included optical cable is a "throwaway" quality item; mine was almost impossible to get into the converter itself and broke when I tried removing it. Considering a good quality optical cable would cost almost as much as this DAC, I don't really see that as a problem. Just realize you might want to order a better quality optical cable along with this DAC if you don't already have one.The included power supply is a plus and seems to be of good quality.Overall, this item does the trick and costs only $14. What more could you ask for?

Worked perfectly.
Worked perfectly to connect tv to Bose amp for surround sound. That connector going into the tv has a cover in it. Tiny plastic cover. Remove it or you won’t get it into the plug on the tv.

Works great for LG OLED TV and old PC speakers.
Works great for my use, would be 5 stars, if it wasn't for 2 minor complaints I have. The power cable is pretty short, forcing me to have the device hanging, whereas, I'd rather it not be hanging off of the cables, suspended in the air. My next complaint is, the power adaptor has a bright red, LED, which lights up, it's unnecessary, and annoying. The device itself, already has one annoying, bright red LED, I don't see the need for one, on the power adaptor also.I used this, in conjunction with, my old computer speakers, which I've used over the years, as a poor man's surround sound. They are a simple 2 speakers and a bass box, meant for PC, this converter, works like a charm. This works with my 55" LG OLED TV, curved model (1080p version). So if you where wondering, yes it works with these OLED TV's, with webOS.You will, however, have to go into the settings on the TV, and turn on the option for surround sound speakers, you'll see options for HDMI Audio and stuff. The only annoyance (with the TV), is that by doing so, it cuts off the TV Audio, while this option for the optical Audio is on. This is good for most people, just that, I used to use the TV speakers as if it where a center channel. Besides this, it works fine with my old PC speakers and bass box. I just wish, these converter's, didn't require their own power, but nothing we can do about that.I can also confirm, this works perfectly fine, with my Xbox One. Plugged directly into the console, it works great. Doing it this way, I avoided losing TV speaker, audio.Price is good, does what I needed it to do, besides the points I mentioned above, solid device, id recommend to anyone, who needs to convert an old setup, to Optical Audio.

great audio converter for a small price!
I've installed these on multiple OLED TV's that only have an optical audio out port. They've worked wonderfully in our use case to connect to older sound systems that use RCA ports. It comes with a power adapter and an included optical cable if you don't have one. For the price it offers a great experience and easy solution for any audio conversion needs.

Works As Advertised
I was trying to add an external speaker to my tv and came to find out it doesn't support aux connection and only Optical. This helped me a lot connect the speaker to my tv. I like that it also has some other ports beside that. Volume control remains in you TV or device. Power Source is needed like an outlet to connect it while connected to your device. The design quality is great and I have no experience with abnormal heat levels. Works as Advertised.
