Superb meat grinder - very happy with this - ground Venison example w/ photo
My son shot his first deer this year and we decided to make our own burger. I opted to buy this grinder attachment - my wife already had the KitchenAid Artisan Mixer - although, I think this works with any of the KitchenAid models. I nearly opted for the cheaper plastic one but chose to spend more on this one - there were some reviews on the plastic one that were concerning. I am so glad I got this one. It is an amazing product and very well worth every penny. I rarely write reviews but this product is really superb. We had our venison scrap cut up Sunday morning and I had partially frozen it and my son and I used this to grind up into burger. We did nearly 20 lbs of burger in maybe 15 minutes working together. It grinded awesome and worked perfectly. I would very highly advise that you buy this one not the plastic cheaper one - you will not regret it. Our deer burger looks as good as it did when we had the butcher do it for us. I attached a photo of our ground venison.

We thought about getting the kitchenaid plastic offering but glad we didn't once we used this quality piece of metal construction. It's strong, rigid and very easy to clean. As soon as this arrived, we pushed 10+ pounds of pork through it for home made sausage production, and it worked without issue. It's easy and fun to use. We look forward to grinding tons of stuff. I'd be hesitant to grind hard items with the plastic model, but this had no problems grinding sausage filler stuff, like carrots, onion and garlic. We used the mixer's paddle later to incorporate the filler/spices before making paddies. We didn't go the sausage casing route, as we don't enjoy eating those, and paddies are easier to griddle cook for us. The instruction manual is in many languages, but would have been nice if they through in some grinding ideas or suggestions to get our creativity flowing on the many uses of this thing.

Great for my uses
I had about 35 lbs. of venison to grind and this little grinder attachment did a better job than the $250 2 h.p. model that I borrowed for the same purpose last season. Very nice fit, finish, and performance. There was NO waste. It never slowed or bogged down. In the other brand grinder I had to stop repeatedly and clean out the string and tendon that clogged the strainer plate. Never once with the Chef's Choice! Only small suggestion for improvement is to have the tray lock onto the feed chute, but this is very small detail compared with the flawless performance of this product for home use. I'm very pleased.

Love it!
This is my first meat grinder, and I've only used it once, however my initial experience was very good. The instructions were clear, and I followed the included recommendations (and those I've read elsewhere) to chill the meat, cut it into the correct size chunks and strips, and remove as much sinewy material as I could. I used the included medium grinder plate to grind about five pounds of beef chuck roast, pork chops, and lamb chops. The finished product was a perfect consistency and looked delicious. I experienced no problems, with nothing getting stuck in the grinder. Cleanup was easy in some soapy water. I look forward to using it again next time I find a good sale on meat. Grinding five pounds took only about five minutes or less on speed level 4. The only real time consuming aspect was trimming the meat ahead of time. So far my opinion is that this is a quality product. It seems rugged, with parts fitting together tightly. I do not see anything that looks like it will break easily, except for perhaps the plastic plunger. Mating the grinder to the Kitchen Aid was easy, and the fit was tight. The chilled meat caused the metal to contract, so unscrewing the ring was impossible until after I held it under hot water for a few seconds.

Great item, don't stick aluminum in the dishwasher
There's a review with photos showing what aluminum does when you stick it in the dishwasher. Yeah, don't stick it in the dishwasher. Even the steel parts can lose their sharp. I wash it all by hand and mine still looks and works great. And soap works fine for cleaning. Also there are zero aluminum shavings or whatever that other comment is. The cutting parts are steel. I've had this since 2017 and use it heavily for meat. Seven years service at this point and still going strong!

Bad tolerance not workable.
I had a KitchenAid mixer and has been using their meat grinder for over 20 years. It is common for the housing of the plastic grinder to crack and prompted me to purchase this as a replacement. It was a big disappointment. After purchased, I had a chance to test it one month later thinking nothing wrong could happen to a grinder attachment. When tried, I found the tolerance was bad. The shaft was not centered. Since all contacts are metal to metal, any mis-alignment will create metal micro-shaving in the color of black inside the meat. Hoping this will go away after a few passages with meat strips, I found that it persisted after using up one pound of pork in vain. Additionally, the cutter and disc do not match well. When the meat has any tough tissue, the grinder head was jammed. I had no problem like this with KitchenAid grinder at all. I had to take out the unit and clean it to resume grinding. The feeder also had a problem to take in the meat. I have to push the meat with the short pusher with no success. Eventually, I had to use my fingers to push them down. (Do not tried this if you are not experienced with grinders.) Knowing these main problems, as en engineer, I tried to match the old KitchenAid parts with this grinder with zero success. Discouraged after an hour, I took out the old cracked KitchenAid grinder and finished the rest of the 30 pounds pork in 30 minutes without any issue. Now, I know why KitchenAid made their grinder in plastic housing. I will accept the housing will crack, but it works. I had many purchases from Amazon and remains a happy customer except this one. After 30 days, I cannot return it of my own fault. It is going to the trash as my expense of learning what works (or not) of a grinder attachment. Hope you do not have to do the same.

For the price, I did not really expect too much from this item. However, I am super impressed and I have used it many times. I am graduating from a very old hand cranked item that attached to a narrow counter. It was work just keeping it in place while I ground meat. Chef's Choice Premium Metal Food Grinder fits nicely onto my Kitchenaid Mixer, it cranks out the meat in no time flat (Make sure the mixer is at the highest speed.) and I just stand there pushing the meat, sliced onions, cooked carrots or whatever, into the hole at the top. Something I am not fussy on is the fact that the mixing part of the mixer still spins around even though it has no job. This is NOT the fault of the food grinder. Kitchenaid could think about making a bypass unit perhaps. The parts are easy to clean but I have washed them by hand only... not sure my dishwasher would be kind in the long run. The quality of the metal parts are wonderful. My family is getting lots more shepherd's pie than it used to. :-)

Excelente accesorio. Sería aún mejor si trajera las boquillas para embutir. La construcción es de acero.

Turn your wife's KitchenAid stand mixer into something useful for meat. This is a great grinder for the money, no 'ragrets'. Maybe one.. I would splurge for the 3 piece. The coarse grind is all well and good for the initial grind on chuck roast but for burgers the coarse leaves too much unprocessed fat and the fine is just a tad too fine. Could use the medium die. Another thing, follow the directions on it so you keep the stand mixer from working too hard. This is an attachment, not a commercial grinder so don't crank it to 10, jam it full of meat and expect it to shoot beef out like a firehose. Keep it to 4-6 speed and add meat at a reasonable pace.
