Rio Grande Games Concordia Venus Expansion Plus Base Game

Ill give it five stars cause the game is fun and complex enough that it’s interesting. I was introduced to it by a friend as an alternative to catan. Catan kinda sucks; I played one where the robber sat on my resource all game because the most common number never got rolled… I did have to return and repurchase this game multiple times because each time there was a tear or hole on the cardboard box. First time the game was mailed in a plastic amazon bag so the box was all dented… second time the inter box was torn at the corner but the top cover was fine…third time was fine.

Concordia has managed to stay in the top games on board game geek, and fought off recency bias. This is largely due to the fact that it manages to create amazing tension from the seemingly limited number of moves, and plethora of options. I've only played it at 2p and 3p counts and found it entertaining each time. I haven't played the Venus variant. That being said this game comes with a lot of maps that can be used for different player counts. Would highly recommend.

Excellent game, has so much to offer with beautiful and elegant mechanisms.

Update: I have an email from a rep at PD Verlag the manufacturer. I was asking for replacement punch boards for this Venus + Base version of the game because of the printer/manufacturer error. They couldn't fulfill the request, as the whole print run apparently is like this. It's a shame, but probably nothing to be surprised at. Concordia is one of the best games out there the last 12 years+ and they probably have not been paying any attention to recent print runs, just reordering and trusting the printers will do their jobs properly. Unfortunately, looks like lax oversight has led to this bad run. What a shame. Original: I received two copies of the game and both of them had poorly registered cardboard tokens. The coins, city tiles, and province bonus tokens were all off centered. Not just a little, but a lot to the point where it was unforgivable at the premium cost for this game. Buyer beware.

All parts were in the box. For a used game it was in like new condition. The box was sealed with tape for shipping, but for the price saved that is more than acceptable.

Fantastic euro game. Interesting strategy. Getting this version is a great value which offers a lot of options for gameplay.

This game is great for the hard core board gamers as you can use multiple strategies to win, and simple enough so that newbies will not be too intimidated. The mechanics for your play turn are simple, play a card from your hand. There are multiple playing boards to change up the game once you feel that it's simple. I haven't played the team games yet, but over all great game to play.

Held off buying this for a while. Glad I succumbed. Only played 3 games so far, but all have been great.
