Oh so gentle and wise
I first read this book up at my friend's cabin in the Boundary Waters and it so moved me I asked if I could take it home to read it again. I wanted to know if it was the stillness of Hungry Jack Lake that made this little book so special, or if it is as simple as that, special. I had to promise I'd get it back to her quickly, it's one of her favorites. A tiny little book that sparkles. I had to have a copy of my own ~ thank you Amazon!

The gift of the magi
She borrows a story from O'Henry that he wrote over a hundred years ago, and claims it as her own. Ridiculous

The simplest things can be the most profound....
This short simple book is a memorable gift for self or others and conveys the ancient magic of story telling by a master story teller. It lingers in the mind and imagination. I remembered reading it years ago and just got it for a friend who loved it. Clarissa Pinkola Estes uses words for healing and to awaken consciousness.

Condition as stated, better than expected.
I purchased this book for a friend as a Christmas gift. The Gift of story is short read with a powerful meaning. I also include stacking dolls with it to make it more personal and as a reminder of the story.

A small story elegantly told
This review is for the hardcover version of the story, not the audiobook.I am a fan of Clarissa Pinkola-Estes. Women Who Run With The Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman is an amazing collection of stories with reflective, Jungian interpretation following them. I bought this book in expectation of similar quality but was a little disappointed. If I had looked carefully at the product sales description I would have seen that "A Gift of Story" is a tiny book (16.8 x 13.2 cm) with only 40 pages. Essentially it is one traditional folk story wrapped in a couple of layers of other stories about how Dr Pinkola-Estes came to hear of the story herself. My 3-star rating is meant to reflect that this story is, in itself, "good enough" but it is a far cry from Dr Pinkola-Estes other publications. For some of her shorter stories I would more happily recommend her audiobooks The Beginner's Guide to Dream Interpretation: Uncover the Hidden Riches of Your Dreams with Jungian Analyst Clarissa Pinkola Estes or MP3 audio stories Bedtime Stories . Utterly Intoxicating
Clarissa is wonderful. Utterly intoxicating. I could listen to her all day. I have listened to this cd many times and adore it. She draws you in and her folk tales and good advice and just brilliant. Yet to hear a piece of work of hers I didn't like.
