Kwame Alexander is Everything
Kwame Alexander is a positive force in children's & young adult literature. He advocates for literacy for all wherever he goes. This alone makes me want to buy everything he writes. Here is a "self-help" book for kids! Through personal narratives, stories of famous athletes, photographs and quotations, this book will inspire young readers. It makes clear that dreams require work and dedication in order to bear fruit. Even so, Alexander does not overwhelm his readers. The page count is a little deceptive, in a good way. Kids feel good about carrying around a book with some heft, but font size, white space and photographs help keep the stories moving at a quick clip. His sense of humor and ability to be self-deprecating as well as self-satisfied appeal to readers of all ages.

Scuffed cover
Excited to give to my kids as presents but disappointed that the books were delivered with black scuffs on the white cover. Giving a 4 star for this reason.

My Family's After Dinner Group Read
A great book for teens/tweens who are into sports. This is a great resource to spend 10 minutes a day discussing as a family. Helping kids understand that hard work is the only path to success in sports and life is a great message. Being afraid to fail is very common in young athletes, and absolutely inhibits their growth -- helping them understand that the path to success comes through failure is a key life message.

Encouraging easy read
A required summer reading for 9th-12th grade. My son is a rising freshman. Although I was slightly disappointed that it was a quick read, it was packed with quotes from famous athletes and encouraging passages.
