Does the job
I was going to one star this company but I ordered another one a few months later and it works great. No need to install anything.

Excellent unit, works with minimal effort
When this unit connects to your PC, the PC sees it as if it were a microphone. So, there's no need for an audio cable to connect to your sound card. Very simple and efficient. Does not come with software, but works with any audio recording software that can capture sound from a microphone.

Only a couple weeks using it so far. Great device record conversations and messages clearly to audio files on a computer.

Only uses .m4a files.
If it had options to use as an .mp3 or other file, it would better. Can't use otherwise.

Despite what someone said in regards to my question, this product 100% records in either the handset OR the headset port on our Cisco 7841 VoIP phones. We are currently trying to dial in the recording settings. But it works completely as advertised. Not sure why people are giving it a low rating saying it doesnt come with software or anything. its not meant to. Its automatically detected by the PC which installs the drivers which allows it to work without software.

Couldn't make it work.
I had to return this. My computer wouldn't recognize it.

The driver loaded fine, I have tried both front and rear panels ...
The staff at the VEC company are very cordial (New Jersey), but this product fails to meet standards of recording quality. Although I have not tracked down the source (in my PC), this LRX-40USB records ANY electronic noise, and records a constant background and LOUD hisssssss in the background. The driver loaded fine, I have tried both front and rear panels (aired and direct to MoBo connections, and both 2.0 and 3.0 ports; all with the same bad results.

Excellent recordings
I am an engineer working for a telecommunications products company (Plantronics). I purchased this item to evaluate as a possible call recording solution for a large customer. Their previous solution used an analog connection to the computer (soundcard connection) and performed poorly. I paired it with a Plantronics M22 adapter and was able to make clear high-quality recordings. The customer just confirmed that they like the solution and will roll it out for production testing in their contact center.

Not bad
Been using this for some time and it actually works pretty well. You need to connect it to your phone handset on one end and into your computer on the other end through the computer’s USB port with the provided cable. Then use an audio recording program such as Audacity, which is free. Under Audacity press “Audio Setup” then “Recording Device” then “Microphone (USB PnP Audio Device)” then press the red recording button and start recording your phone call. When you want to save the recording you export the Audacity File as an .MP3 of .WAV file. The advantage of using Audacity is you can see the voice levels scrolling on-screen so you know its working. Both voices are clear and neither you nor the caller on the other end can tell that this call is being recorded (under UK law you need to inform the caller and ask for permission to record). I have found this gadget very useful, especially when doing complicated transactions, where you need a record of who said what or where you need to replay the conversation to remind you of detail. Its not perfect i.e. there is no gain dial, no on-off button, the USB cord is too short, and as it does not record by itself it takes up a valuable USB port. Still, it does the job quite well.

Detailed Review
The device works as advertised. There is a background hum/buzz, but both parties on the telephone are clearly recorded. Because the documentation is lacking in any mention of how to actually record a conversation, the following information may help the next person who is thinking of buying this product: - I am using this device with a Toshiba DKT3020C-SD office telephone and Windows 10. - I plugged the device into the phone and computer - no popup dialog on the computer; just a red light on the device indicating everything was OK. - I lifted the handset from the phone and the blue light on the device illuminated - OK. - So far, so good. However, "How do I record a conversation"? - In <Control Panel><Administrative Tools><Device Manager><Sound, video & game controllers> it now shows "USB PnP Audio Device" - I opened the windows 10 'Voice Recorder' application and selected the microphone logo to start recording and the red light started flashing. I then lifted the handset and the blue light turned on, superimposing itself over the red flashing light. I spoke into the telephone handset to test the audio recording. - I stopped the recording session and discovered the file was saved in C:\users\<YOURNAME>\Documents\Sound Recordings\Recording.m4a So, in summary, you have to use your own audio recording software which uses the "USB PnP Audio Device" as a microphone. Hope this helps.
