GUTTER PROTECTORS
The product is good as it is suppose to be from what I'm told. One of my neighbors installed it for me because I am disabled. He had to twist it at the bottom to make it fit and pushed it down the gutter about an inch or so. I have a tile roof. In Calif many of the gutter protectors don't work that is on the market because they are made to slide under the roofing whlch can be lifted up. Tile is nailed and can't be lifted. I saw one at ACE Hardware that AMAZON has that will work and is cheaper, however with this strainer I will not need them. Also I bought a gutter sprayer to clean out the dirt because we had winds up to 70 mph several months ago and I was told there was a lot of dirt and leave in the gutter which can be blown out this summer. I want need the gutter protectors with this strainer and I only get leaves on one side of the house because of my neighbor trees and they can be blown out. I might get the gutter guards just for one side since they only run about $4 for about 20 feet. I just turned 71 in December and I had back surgery in 2006 so I have to rely on others to do the climbing so that is why I said I was told it was all I need by another reliable neighbor. I buy a lot of things through AMAZON and I have always got good service.

A very cheap, very effective option to prevent clogged downspouts
This is a very simple solution to clogged downspouts, whether they are in a gutter or (as in my case) on a flat roof. The strainer is roughly six inches tall (two to four of which will be inserted into the downspout), and is slightly tapered so that the top is wider than the bottom. The screen material is not welded together at the ends (you can see it in the picture above if you look at the back side). This allows you to "roll up" the strainer a little bit to make the bottom narrow enough to fit in the downspout's opening; when you let it go, it will expand on its own to hold it in place.Note that this will only fit in a circular opening, which is what many people have. This will not work if you have a rectangular opening, as it will leave a gap. Also note that you will still have to remove debris if it piles up around the strainer, as this will still cause water to back up, but at least you won't have a clog you'll have to roto-rooter.If you don't have some kind of anti-debris covering on your gutters, or if you have a flat rook with a simple hole for drainage, this is a low-cost, low-maintenance option I recommend.

Great Strainers
These gutter strainers are sturdy and adjustable. They work well in my gutter system to stop leaves from clogging up the downspouts.

This is not genuine Amerimax, it is a cheap knockoff
This is little more than a rectangular piece of light aluminum screen that someone made a halfhearted attempt to roll into a cylinder shape. It is not formed into a curve at the end nor are the sides joined. It is far less well made than downspout strainers I purchased several years ago. The photo looks like the quality ones I bought and it is very disappointing that Amazon allows a cheap pretend version to pretend to be something it isnโt. An 8-year-old could cut a piece of mesh and do a better job.

Aluminum -- won't rust out!
I don't know why this isn't in the product title, but this version is the aluminum version, so it won't turn in to a pile of rust over time.Yes, what some of the other reviewers state is true: these strainers will clog up your gutters with all the leaves and debris that would otherwise get flushed down, potentially clogging downspouts and run-off pipes. These strainers don't eliminate gutter maintenance & cleaning, but they go a long way towards preventing stopped-up spouts. That's reason enough to have them. The wire mesh construction is simple to squeeze into drain holes, then expands to fill the opening. The water and small debris (like sand, dirt, bugs, etc.) get through, but leaves, berries and other things don't.The only thing missing from this product is the ability to buy a 10-pack.

Great to block chipmunks
I use these to block my downspouts at ground level so that chipmunks cannot go in them. These are easy to compress into the downspout, and then expand once you release them. You can barely see that I have them installed, and I haven't seen a chipmunk since! I do have gutter guards on my roof so I don't have to worry about leaves or other blockages getting caught by where I have these installed, but they are easy enough to remove, clean, and re-insert if I did have to clean them.
