Black & Decker The Book of Home How-To Kindle Edition

I really like this book. It covers a very broad range of topics, and gives proper advice for the work. There may be some cases where a more modern alternative is available, but for the most part it is still up to snuff with how this stuff gets done. The one caveat is that it isn't highly detailed instruction, for a beginner for example. For a given issues or fix, the book will go over the major steps to getting the job done, but it will not explain the specifics of how each step is accomplished. For example, if you haven't used a particular tool or product recommended, you aren't going to learn how to do that with this book. Treat this book as a blueprint for how to correctly approach the task, but you may need to research more specific stuff as it comes up. This will give you the plan, but the know-how has to come from you.As an example, in the section on repairing a large hole in a concrete basement floor, one technique given is using a circular saw with a masonry blade and cutting a key along the edge of the hole. If you've never cut stone before, or aren't comfortable with circular saws, you'll have to do further learning. Again, this book is the blueprint, not a trove of specifics on any particular tool or technique.

Navigation in the Kindle edition was terrible to non-existent which would make it useless IMO. What I did read did not seem to be as to be as complete and easy to understand compared to some other (physical) :how-to" books I've had (my old Readers Digest "Do It Yourself Manual" comes to mind. It was excellent).

I like that this book is color coded into different categories such as plumbing, electrical, floors, doors & windows, etc... However, I've got another 1 of the older Black & Decker home r we pair books & it goes much more into detail on how to do things step by step & for each & every job, it starts out by showing you the tools you will need. It is a much better book than this one & it is much older. This book doesn't show you how to finish alot of things in their steps like in vinyl plank flooring they show you nothing about transition strips or how to install it in bathrooms around bathtubs & toilets, nor what types of subfloor you should use, or anything about caulking or installing your trim at the end. They leave out alot if stuff that's not covered anywhere else in the book. For the cost of this book, I wouldn't recommend buying it. You can learn more on you tube.

Book is excellent, straight forward, covers the majority of common and necessary home repairs, and provides many excellent color pictures for every task. The book assumes the reader knows nothing, so it's very procedural and written in plain English.I recommend the book!

Filled with pictures and step by step instructions. Only problem that I found is that it doesn't cover more modern renovation projects like installing stone countertops or undermount sinks. Great for walls, roofing, decks, tile, electrical, leveling, flooring, and other projects.

I feel like EVERY homeowner needs this book. It has gotten me out of a lot of jams. I. A world of YouTube it’s nice to have an actual reference book on how to fix things. Bought another for my brother as a house warming gift.

This book has been a helpful addition to the house, as things need repair or replacement i can reference the fix it bible. I do wish the articles had qr codes to link to youtube or someother site videos for the repairs in progress. This makes for a great housewarming gift for first time homebuyers!

Read the entire book at Barnes and Nobles.... then bought the book there....My friend just bought a house so I figure this would be the best gift to give someone.If you don't believe me... go to your nearest bookstore and check it out. I will guarantee you that you will buy it on the spot.

This is a great book for anyone who likes to carry out work around the home or garden. It's is very well laid out and explains things clearly.

Written for the American market. Don't buy if you live in the UK.

A great basic source of info, not an encyclopedia but well laid out with great photos of almost everything a home owner will encounter either enabling them to initiate the project themselves or being able to negotiate with an understanding of the work with a tradesman/contractor.
