A Spoiler-Free(?) Review
An excellent canonical side story involving Team CFVY (pronounced "Coffee") chronicling the aftermath of specific events that occurred in the web-based animated series "RWBY." An entertaining and fun read for those who follow the series and want to know more about some of the other characters and stories that occur in the world depicted in the series.

Arrive near-pristine
The book itself came in near-perfect condition (the bottom corner sticks up a bit) which is more than I expected after my last online book purchase from anywhere. Its especially surprising considering the box was damaged considerably and its a paperback book. No creases anywhere, no writing. The cover itself is beautiful and glossy.

knowing the depth of the character gives a great vision.
Regardless how RWBY is to others. A spin off telling of another team brings more color and depth to the world we haven’t seen in video

Fun story about Team CFVY
It's a good little romp about Team CFVY as they go on an adventure to save the people of Vacuo from a mysterious phenomenon attracting grim and destroying settlements. Each chapter feels like it could be an episode of the show and the writing is considerably more solid. Notably, every character gets a good bit of development and a fair moment of the spotlight without anyone getting overshadowed or one character's arc or character being sacrificed for anotherDownsides are that it breaks the show don't tell rule sometimes and it is very predictable and a little plot armory. Other than that it was a great read and fit the tone of post volume 3 well; especially, with the amount of times it's mentioned that the desert is dangerous and unforgiving.

Some of the best RWBY yet
If you're a fan of Rwby then you probably already got this book. That's how much the fanbase love rwby, but some of the biggest questions is if the universe stands without the main characters. After the fall is a book that features a team that are side characters at best in the main show, only really appearing to demonstrate what senior students are capable of. Fans of the show no doubt recognize them, but people who do not know much about the show might be utterly lost. Actually that is whom this book will serve the very best because this is some very fancy writing. If you aren't a fan of RWBY and you stumbled on this book and this review than this is a good place to start. After the Fall is stand alone, while it does touch on some of the things that happen in the show, it largely backfills what you need to know so you could actually enjoy this without hardly knowing anything at all about Rwby. That isn't whom this was written for, but the fact that it could serve that purpose is truly astounding.A thing that I find particularly amazing and exciting is that this book proves something, that Rwby has life beyond team RWBY. Stories that take place in the world of Revenant could really captivate and continue the stories beyond the main storyline. The team in this book (CVFY) are really fun and I would love to see a whole novel series that follows them. Other characters show up that could all have their own books, comics or even shows.Ultimately if you're a fan of Rwby you should love this book and if you're casually curious then you might read it anyway. The world is fascinating and has a lot of depth and potential.

We meet Team CFVY
Author E.C. Myers brings us to the world of RWBY with After the Fall. The fall being Beacon Academy. This book is manly about Team CFVY or (coffee) and how they were the new team at Beacon Academy in the year before it fell. This story also deals with how they coped with the fall of Beacon and how they managed to get a group of nomads to safety while fighting off three rogue huntsmen and huntress. Coco the leader of Team CFVY who has always been a loner until she came to Beacon and was paired with the rest of her team after they where shot into the forest to defeat the local Grimm and come back in one peace began to really count on her team. The four of them while on this adventure found out that the there is someone in one of the three remaining kingdoms that wants people with their sebliances (powers) but that is a tale for another time. I highly recommend this book for fans of the show RWBY and for fantasy fans in general. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Interesting for big RWBY fans, but a lot weaker than the show
First off, if you haven't watched and enjoyed RWBY up through at least the end of season 3, don't even look at this. Seriously. After the Fall takes place at the end of season 3 and follows the adventures of team CFVY, with a lot of flashbacks to earlier events which provide some more insight into their background. It is interesting for the tie-in, world background and to see more of the characters we love from the series. However, the story isn't very strong; it is a pretty shallow plot line and it feels like a lot of it doesn't make sense. There's a lot of words on action scenes, but it feels like action written by someone used to writing for a TV show, where the description will turn into visual action. On paper, the action just doesn't translate as well, and the descriptions are often annoyingly vague. For example, discussing the book after reading it, there were a few monsters important to the story that my wife and I realized we hadn't the faintest idea what they were supposed to have been or looked like. About the only time they go into detail on the descriptions is on a lingering 'male gaze' type description of the female characters, which is really off-putting coming from a show that has such fantastic female characters as the central focus (not that the character's aren't sexualized too much there as well, but it stands out more when its the ONLY strong descriptive focus in the book).A worthwhile read for big fans, but not for anyone else. Just to note though, the second book in the series does better; the plot is more involved, and they seem to have gotten better at adapting the action and unique world to the printed form.

Surprisingly great story
I had feared that this would be badly written or would take away from the story of Team RWBY, however I was actually very surprised. While the writing is not top quality, it is still pretty good once you start getting into the story. The characters ere captured perfectly and built upon what can be seen in the show. Overall I would highly recommend this book even if you haven't seen the show it is based on (though its even better if you have).

Cover of book bent and stepped on
The book itself is great. The poor review is due to the condition it came it. It's got scuffs on the front and the back looks like someone stepped on it and bent the back cover. I would return it but my husband is gonna use it as a work copy as books tend to get wrecked there anyways. I am extremely disappointed with the condition.

A great addition to your RWBY collection
Fun story! I love getting to know more about the characters that don't get much limelight in the main series :)
