Nice lens hood for the Sony 16-50mm OSS Kit lens
Nice lens hood with a metal threaded ring to attach to the Sony 16-50mm OSS Kit lens. It is made of sturdy plastic and fits on the ring adapter with 4 spring-loaded detent balls. Does not affect the picture quality (No vignetting). The hood could be reversed when putting your camera in the bag. Black matte finish. Fits perfectly. This is the hood Sony forgot to make for the Sony 16-50mm OSS Kit lens. It is not only functional, but it also looks very nice! Thank you Fotodiox for this product!

Awesome kit for the Sony 3.5-5.6/ 16-50mm OSS lens!
Just received this Fotodiox lens hood for the Sony 3.5-5.6/ 16-50mm OSS lens. There were mixed reviews, some people saying you couldn't use this hood with this lens, others saying that there wasn't a lens cap with this hood kit. I received a hood, lens cap and cap tether, just like the photo and description said. The hood threaded without any problems and the quality seems great! It also came with a lens cap (which replaces the OEM cap) and it seems to fit and work just fine. The hood pulls off easily in order to reverse for storage and the mounted position seems sturdy. For $10 this little hood and kit is great in my opinion. I saw a comment that claimed this hood would cause focal obstruction, so I tested it out and I didn't find that to be true with the Sony A6300. No vignetting or blur with this particular lens, I can't say the same for wider lenses.

If you use this lens, get this hood
It's beefier than most factory hoods, but the overall design idea is great. I've never seen this concept before, but it works great. The hood can be attached two ways, inwards and outwards. Or it can be removed while the attaching ring can stay on the lens increasing the distance between the glass and the camera bad for example, about 1/4".

If you’re using the Sony kit lens, buy this!
Great little shade for the Sony 16-55 kit lens. Fits perfectly and makes the kit lens look 100x better on the camera body aesthetically. Beyond that it does its job well and filters are easily screwed in over it.

Solution for Protrusion/Retraction (Lens Error)
First off, I just want to say that the quality and build of this product is top-notch. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars out of 5 is because of the lens issue that everyone is having (or to Sony a6000 to my knowledge). I own a Sony a6000 and everything is working perfectly. To all the people that are having trouble with the lens error, I think I may have found the solution. All you need is a simple rubber band that is not too thick. All you need to do is wrap it around the threaded part as shown by the picture below. Then mount it back on and everything should be working smoothly. One thing I noticed is that the hood is a bit wobbly. A better solution would be to 3-d print an offset ring as mentioned by Ville K. This could be found at thingiverse Let me know if it works for you! Thanks!

Good Lens Hood, Amazing Value
This device is nicely machined with a metal threaded ring to attach to the lens, and the sturdy plastic hood fits on the ring with 4 spring-loaded detent balls placed around the inside of the ring to hold it in position and let you rotate the hood to align it and avoid vignetting. You can reverse the hood by simply popping the hood off the threaded ring, reversing it, and pushing it back on. It's all produced with a nice black matte finish. Nice hood for the kit lens.

A6000 problem, but good product.
Mixed review... The adapter ring causes a calibration issue with the Sony A6000 kit lens. When installed it does not allow the lens to fully retract causing a "UNRECOGNIZED LENS" error. This is NOT the same as the "Release Without Lens" fix. Totally different. I had to remove the lens and restart camera each time to clear. Not convenient or practical. But as for the item itself, it's much better than expected. The metal adapter is solid and has spring loaded bearings to hold the hood in place. The hood is plastic, but solid. Pops on and off easily, reverses for storing on camera nicely. Now, the lens cap seems to confuse people somehow. The cap DOES NOT RIDE ON LENS. It installs on adapter ring, that's why it's so much bigger than the original Sony cap. I see one review here where someone returned it simply based on the cap size without grasping the concept... I don't understand how that confuses so many, it's pretty straight forward: large cap fits hood kit, not lens. Besides that, if the ring had a slight redesign shaving off a mm or so, the reset error would be eliminated and this would be a 5 solid stars review. Product was returned.

A Perfect Fit For The Sony a6300
Works as advertised. As far as I can see their is no evidence of vignetting as some have said. The inner (reversing) ring is held into the main part of the hood by miniature spring loaded ball bearings and is held in tightly. When reversed it fits the Sony a6300 perfectly and tucks away nicely. The quality is much better than I had expected for the money. I would highly recommend this lens hood.

I bought this primarily for the lens cap, as no brick and mortar retailers in Vancouver seem to stock 40.5mm caps. The good: - sturdy plastic construction feels as good as the original parts - contrary to other reviewers the metal adapter/mounting ring is well-tapped and screws on and off easily - it's very convenient that the adapter ring gives you the option of using 40.5mm or 52mm accessories. It's not something I need right now, but it's a nice thought from the designers The bad: - when the hood is installed backward when not in use it partially obscures the zoom ring on the 16-50mm kit lens included with the a6000. This is really a very minor thing and I can't think of any way it could have been avoided, but it's good to know. The zoom "jog dial" is still easily accessible. - the lens cap's retention string is a bit thin. Again, not really a criticism, and I got my money's worth, but with a bit of wear I could see it shredding if it got caught on something. I might replace it with something a bit thicker. All in all, I'm very happy and I would buy it again.
