I owned the 24"x18"x1.5" and it was too big for my apartment kitchen. Is this board comparable to the larger board's quality?

Yes. I have owned this board for 6 months, and I am very pleased with its quality and feel like it is the perfect size. Plenty of space to cut but easier to handle as far as washing in the sink.

does the 20" x 15" 1-1/2" have hand grips? I know the 24" does

I have 2 boards. One w/juice grooves, one w/o. The boards are fabricated from pieces of wood glued together to form a larger surface. The strips vary in color from yellow-ish to brown. No 2 boards are exactly alike. Inevitably, you will have a multi-colored surface. Oiling the wood regularly keeps the color more vivid and prolongs the life of your board.
