WWE: Best Of NXT TakeOver 2018

NXT Takeover
This two disc DVD highlight's the best matches from NXT's Takeover events in 2018. It replaces the overall best of NXT DVD they released the year before as the yearly NXT release. It's a match compilation hosted by The Undisputed Era, who don't really do much but I enjoyed what they did do.Aleister Black vs. Adam Cole - This first match was an Extreme Rules match and a great way to start the DVD. The action is entertaining from start to finish. Adam Cole took advantage of the stipulation right away while Black only did so very rarely as he felt he didn't need to. There was some interference by The Undisputed Era but Sanity fought them off soon after so it didn't hurt the match and just added to the chaotic feel of the fight. They had some convincing near falls before a strong and decisive finish.Andrade "Cian" Almas vs. Johnny Gargano - This was for the NXT Championship. These two had an incredible match that was released on the previous NXT DVD. Somehow this one managed to top it as it delivered one of the best matches of the year. The action was absolutely fantastic and had a fast pace. The reversals were great, the storytelling was so good and the near-falls were insane. The last ten minutes were just false finish after false finish and it was amazing. This was practically a perfect match and it was so exciting to watch.EC3 vs. Killian Dain vs. Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Lars Sullivan vs. Ricochet - This was a Ladder match for the brand new NXT North American Championship. It was a great match to start off the show. It was a chaotic match full of non-stop action. There were plenty of high spots without them feeling too set up. They had enough time to make sure everyone got to look good but Adam Cole, Ricochet and Killian Dain were the standouts with some very impressive moments. There were a couple of missed spots throughout the match but they were hardly noticeable and couldn't take away from the great action.Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet - This was a great, back and forth match. It was a match built off of athleticism with some really impressive manoeuvres and reversals. The action was fast paced and never slowed down. There were some fun moments and some really convincing false finishes. This was my first Ricochet singles match and I was very impressed.Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano - This was a Street Fight and was the second match in an amazing trilogy of matches between these two rivals. It was a great fight, you could really feel the hatred between the two men with every thing they did. They rarely went for pinfalls, they just wanted to dish out as much punishment as they could, and they both gave out a load. There was a pause in the action after a big spot but that didn't hurt things too much, it was after an impactful moment so it was earnt and it added to the story they were telling in the ring of what this rivalry had done to Johnny and just how far he was now willing to go. The finish was great and really worked with Gargano's obsession with punishing Ciampa. I enjoyed this more than their first fight although both are brilliant matches.Undisputed Era vs. Moustache Mountain - This was for the NXT Tag Team Championships with Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly representing the Era. It was another fantastic match. Both teams worked together so well all throughout the fight. There were lots of false finishes keeping things exciting and the match kept a fast pace. They had some good psychology with the Undisputed Era targeting the legs of both of their opponents which also played into the finish. A great match that built to a strong and decisive finish.Adam Cole vs. Ricochet - This match was for the NXT North American Championship. It was another great back and forth match. The action was so good from start to finish. It was competitive, with a load of fast paced counters and reversals. There's an incredible counter where Cole hits a superkick while Ricochet is midway through a springboard moonsault that has to be seen to be believed. There are a load of great near-falls as the match builds to it's clean and satisfying conclusion.Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane - This was for the NXT Women's Championship and it was another great match. Sane made a great underdog here, she always looked like she was fighting an uphill battle but also always felt like she had a chance. Baszler went after Sane's leg to try and get her to give up but also just beat her up to try and choke her out. She had multiple strategies but it never felt like she was doing things for no reason. The match built really well to an exciting finish. It wasn't the best match they've had together but it was pretty close.Johnny Gargano vs. Aleister Black - This was another amazing back and forth match. It was an exchange of strikes for the most part which worked with their rivalry well. It was more exciting than that sounds though with some incredible sequences, fast paced reversals and some very good false finishes. The action was fantastic from the very start and they had a great, decisive and satisfying finish.Tammaso Ciampa vs. Velveteen Dream - This was an NXT Championship fight and it was another great one. The action was competitive, a lot of it revolving around Ciampa's knee. He was using his knee, aided by his knee brace, to try and knock out Dream. It eventually turned around and Velveteen targeted that same knee. There were some really good near-falls as the match built towards the finish. The finish was really good too, it was clean while still showing how ruthless Tomasso Ciampa is.Undisputed Era vs. Pete Dunne, Ricochet and the War Raiders - This was the Wargames match that main-evented the Takeover of the same name. It was the second time NXT had put on one of these matches but the rules of this one more closely resembled the original Wargames matches from WCW with just two teams and the way the participants entered. The match was great, I loved the teamwork of the Undisputed Era, they took full advantage of the numbers advantage and even locked Pete Dunne out of the cage for a bit. Once everyone was in it was just a chaotic fight, in a good way, with a bunch of weapons and destruction. It might be a bit long for some people but I thought it was a great match that I'm so glad they included. This is an incredible DVD. It's unfortunate that it's only two discs instead of three but they are filled with fantastic matches. Every match deserved it's place on the set and delivered great action from start to finish. I'd definitely recommend this DVD to any wrestling fan as the in-ring quality is so high it's incredible.
