The roots of the Souvenir Jacket, or Sukajan in Japanese, can be traced back to American soldiers stationed in the Pacific Theater following the end of World War II. During the post-war occupation, American troops began getting traditional Japanese designs hand-stitched into the backs of their jackets to commemorate their time in Japan. Popular designs included Japanese (and Chinese) style dragons, cherry blossoms (floral) and trees. Other soldiers chose local artwork that ranged from traditional maps to Geisha girls to snakes. These jackets would often incorporate rayon and silk and, in some cases, were actually constructed from excess silk salvaged from military parachutes. These jackets were brought back to the United States as literal souvenirs and sometimes were purchased as gifts for family members and close friends. Other than the embroidered designs themselves, this style of jacket is defined by its cut, which is similar to a classic American baseball jacket. Perfect!
If you usually buy women's sizes S-L, you should order one size down your usual size. I am normally a men's XS/women's S but I thought to play it safe and get the M because I like the slightly oversized look; the M wears like a women's L. I am amazed at the quality of this jacket for its price, very well-made and durable, comfy and warm lining, no loose strings, looks exactly like the photo with perfect embroidery. Highly recommend!

Real retro bargain!
Reminiscent of 1950's jackets US kids got from older brothers uncle's etc. during occupation and later after WWII and Korea. Amazing jacket for price.Ordered XL and fits OK with generous sleeve length ( I am 35/36) and shoulders and chest but a little more snug around my 37" waist.

People. Hear me. My daughter has been BEGGING me for a jacket like this. In the states, they're a few hundred dollars. I,told her to wait until we visited her sister in Japan.. Still a few hundred dollars. I ordered 2 of these in M and L on the off chance that maybe it was a good deal. This jacket is GORGEOUS! I agree that the medium fits like a misses large. It's very well made, and perfect. She's currently wearing it over her pajamas (Christmas gift). I was going to return the large, but for the price, maybe I'll hold onto it...

Size is a tough one even if you measure.
The look of the jacket is awesome. I used the sizing chart but the thing was still one size too small. It's not like I'm fat either I just have broad shoulders.

Great looking jacket and excellent value
I bought this jacket for my son. I wasn't expecting much considering that the price was almost ridiculously low. I was taken aback by the high quality of the garment. The material actually feels like satin. The colors are vibrant and the embroidery is amazingly well done. My son usually wears a medium, so that's what I ordered. This jacket is true to size and fits him great. I'm also pleased with the speed of delivery! My son was very satisfied with his new jacket.
