I used for a non-vornado ATS and filtration seems fine.
I own an old Amway air treatment system, a very old one but high quality. It's worked for some 20 years, literally. Was top of the line when purchased. All filters are now discontinued. This filter was the closest I found to the size. I lined the top and sides with latex and "door" weatherstripping to manage the gaps. It seems to be working well. I also put a vornado pre-filter on the side where the air intake is and reused the old Amway carbon filter (the old Amway utilized a HEPA and a carbon together; I'd love to replace it too but I can't figure out how to accomplish that). My makeshift combo seems to filter almost as well as before for only $80.00 total cost (including the weatherstripping). The Amway filters were about $200 a year. So I came out ahead and resurrected a decent device. I believe, based on my experience, that I might just be willing to purchase the whole vornado system, but, for now, this seems just fine.May 2017: I upgraded to 5 stars from my original 4. While my makeshift system might not be approved by vornado company, I personally have been pleased with results and longevity and certainly, for what I want and am getting, the price. HOWEVER, I have also reviewed the totally unrelated Mammoth brand filter and system highly. I am still living in an environment (old dusty house) and room size (500 plus square feet) that defies small filters and yet, the filters I am using seem to help. I recently tested the mammoth system by using it alone and am pleased by its ability to clean even 500 square feet (small system and inexpensive filters). The air movement is better than the old Amway. If you buy the whole Vornado system, read other reviews for air movement and room size. My situation is unique. I am only rating the filter itself and was pleased with its performance for an extended period of time.

Get this one, don't bother with the generic drop in.
Had two returns on the generic type, those had to be returned, this one was so much better constructed, heavier duty and works.

Yes, it's expensive ...
...but it does the job. I still think the AQS35 is the best air filter them have ever made. Complaints about AQS35 noise has only led Vornado to create lower capacity and therefore more silent filters like the AC500 which I also have.

Breath easy
We really like our vorando but the filters are not cheap at Bed Bath and Beyond. I found this one at a good price on Amazon. The vendor was great and got it out quickly. It works great scrubbing the air and clears out a room as quick as a few hours. If you have allergies this is a very helpful product. These filters are high quality removing allergins and all the dust in the air. I definitely recommend this filter and vendor and the price.

Electricity usage
I used a watt-meter from my local power company and discovered the following: Depending on fan speed, low to high, my VAQS25 uses 50W, 93W, or 160W.I normally use the lowest (and quietest) speed but sometimes must flip to high after feeding my wood stove if I'm not careful.I'll be replacing my HEPA filter after three years of winter use (I only use it because of the wood stove). I've used my shop vac, a powerful one, to clean the filter a couple times, and the green light still comes on when I switch to high.
