I use it every time with quick results
Knives are important to me. Sharpness is critical for cutting skills and safety. This means doing regular maintenance. This superb honing oil makes quick work of stropping. Also effective with my ceramic sharpening rod and my steels. Just a drop goes a long way on each side.

Very good, especially if you work away from home
I sharpen chisels and/or handplane irons almost every day, but it's usually not in my own shop. I made the decision to use Smith's honing solution about six months ago and I'm happy with it. The decision was driven by the fact that Smith's is not petroleum-based: it's water soluble. Since I'm usually away from home and reliable washing/rinsing/drying I'm better off with water-based. Petroleates provide slightly better lubrication, but their real edge is that they don't dry out. This stuff dries quickly, which is unfortunate, especially with porous stones. However, I think many people will benefit from how easy Smith's is to live with. Something I've liked about Smith's is that it floats the metal fines right out of your stone's pores, and if you're good about keeping the stone wet it'll never clog up. The only real drawback I see with this stuff is that it should be available in larger quantities. I'd be happier with 8oz for $6 or $7.00 if it were available, or 16oz for $12.00. The little bottles make you a little stingy and you really need to use it freely.

Does the job.
Have only used once but seemed to do what is supposed to. I feel it is hard to control getting just a drop or two out where and when you want it, came out a little too freely.

Surprised At How Effective It Was
NOT FOR WATER STONES! >.. I bought this because I was getting less than great results from my my sharpening stones. I read the information on here, and when it arrived, I opened it and put two or three drops on the stone. I spread it out over the surface, then I took a knife that had been giving me trouble, and casually stroked down the stone. It seemed to glide a little easier than usual, so I said to myself, "OK, maybe this can help." then I did three more strokes, reversed the knife and did four on that side too. >.. I don't usually check that quick, but I got out a bit of paper and sliced it effortlessly!! Well, that WAS DIFFERENT. There was a flat place near the tip that didn't want to cut, so I ran the blade over the stone backwards, drawing the blade back rather than slicing it, and focused a bit on that 'dull' spot. Did the other side, as well. Tested, and now it was all good. Alright! >.. I needed to wipe the stone down to lift off the particles the oil(?) fluid(!) had floated up. That also lightened the stone. Now, that was almost an exciting experience. So I added the fluid to the stone and began sharpening others knives that were not their best. Using the fluid, I was able to get better results faster than without. and, yes, I re-tested some of the knives the old way. Better with the fluid. >.. Two drops seems to work best, spread over the surface of the stone. Three is OK, but too much is too much. >.. No comment on Amazon, their website, or the package as being food safe, so after sharpening, I wipe them down, and food knives get washed and DRIED. Good on Carbon Steel, stainless steel, and patterned steel, and specialty Asian knives with hard steel surrounded by softer steel (isn't REALLY Damascus steel, but they are beautiful knives). All sharpen much easier than they had before. And stay sharper.

Good quality oil. Low odor
Good quality honing oil. Not too messy. Unlike some other oils Iโve used, Smithโs is easy to wash off your hands with some regular hand soap. The odor doesnโt linger after you wash it off

Beads up like water
Just sharpened some of my knives with this new oil. It seems to work ok, but the oil beads up like water on a non porous surface. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but all of the honing oils I've used over the years have absorbed into the stones. This oil beads up & rolls right off as soon as I apply a knife edge. I can't really tell if any of the oil is staying on the stone & doing it's job. I've tried rubbing the oil into the stone with my finger before sharpening the knife, but all it does is break up the large water beads into smaller beads. On re-reading the info on the product page, I now realize it's a water based product. I don't understand why they made it a water based oil instead of a petroleum based oil.

A Must For Use With All Diamond Stones!
I own a couple of Smith's Diamond Stones and had previously used to sharpen my knives either dry or with water, or a mixture of detergent and water After some research, I found out the best way to sharpen my knives with my Smiths diamond stones was with their own brand honing solution. Wowsers what a difference it immediately made!. These 2 products were made for one another It radically increased the speed I can sharpen my chef's knives and makes the whole sharpening experience easier There are a few similar on the market but for the crazy inexpensive price for the amount I totally recommend buying one or two.. I purchased 2 bottles and now always use them when sharpening on my diamond stones Once again another Amazon 5 Star ๐ ๐๐๐๐ product! Great Price, Great Quality and Supersonic Delivery Speed!! ๐บ๐โบ๏ธ

Perfect Honing OIl
This is quite used and appreciated for sharpening knives and cutting tools using mineral based e.g. Aluminium oxide oil stones. Is light and supports to sharpen while spreading the slur collected. Great product although price is around 3-4 USD only in USA but in India is charged a premium. But thanks to amazon that such products which are neither made or easily available in shops or online in India are available now. The 5 star rating is for the product. The seller will great 1 or 2 star only for escalating the price so much. THANKS
