Update on May 30: The cloudiness has disappeared, and there is no smell either. Thumbs up!Original review:The unit was installed today, hence 4 stars, will wait a month or two before updating to 5 stars (hopefully).I bought this system to replace the larger, more bells and whistles kind of RainSoft system, which is salt based.I live alone now, and I no longer want to be worried about the electronic parts or salt replacement part, etc. of the other system. This seems to be easier for me, OK, so I will replace the cartridge every 5-6 months.The installation was relatively simple, done by a plumber. However, I noticed a slight smell and the water keeps coming out milky cloudy. So I worried and gave the company a call. At first, got a voice mail, and after waiting an hour (yes typical anxious customer), called again. Second call, jackpot! Spoke with a friendly person, who took the info, explained that the whiteness could be due to the salt residue in the pipes being flushed out, and recommended I wait a few days and see if this clears up. Also, re. the smell, he said I should ask the plumber what he used during installation.Plumber will return tomorrow, so I will ask. Also, will wait and see if water flow clears up.I never used tap water, however filtered it was, for drinking or coffee, always used the water from the GE fridge's filtered dispenser.Meanwhile, am very pleased that I was able to reach a real live customer service rep., and will update this review in due time. So far, recommended!

This was a great purchase. Runs well keeping up the water pressure. No more worries about spoiled tubes.

I have been using Aquios filters for a few years now and they do a great job of removing the smallest of particles in my houses water. It softens the water enough to see a difference in the Washer, Dish Washer & especially in my electric Hot Water Heater. I was burning out heating elements constantly from the hard water minerals, but with the Aquios on my Water Main they last way way longer. Using the Aquios housing for the filters is a smart idea too, cheap imitations break, flood your home & end up costing you more than you think you saved.

From the impression I got of this item from the description, I thought it was a whole house water filter and softener. It appears that it was designed to supplement a standard water softener instead of functioning as a water softener. OUr plumber explained that to us when he came to install it and we had to return this item.
