Nicely built, solid weight.
Good build quality with enough heft to ensure stability. Would recommend.

Best Soldering Stand for the price
Excellent stand, Stand is heavy gaugemetal. Cup which holds metal coil is metal unlike others which are plastic. The iron receiver is heat resistant Bakelite with a metal tube attached. The stand back is perforated for heat dissipation. The Bakelite also is perforated for heat dissipation. The weight of the stand is plenty to keep it in place. A minor problem is the cup which is not a snug fit so perhaps a few wraps of teflon tape to fix that would be required. Great price for such a nice stand to complete my soldering station. Tiny rubber feet slide around on my counter top but when placed on a rubber mat it does not slide at all.To the reviewer who said a solder splash shield keeps solder off the bench. You do not slap this mesh like it was a sponge but instead simply poke the tip into the mesh. No splash, no mess. The sharp edges of the wire clean the tip with one or two pokes. One person I observed picked up the mesh and poked the tip into it while holding it. Works pretty good that way. After using this a while I have noticed that the metal tube that holds the iron gets pretty hot in fact it will melt plastic like solder spools and wick spools so do not allow those items to rest against the tube, It has still not smelled bad like one review. If I burn insulation I certainly get some foul odors but that is not the stands fault.

Works Great, But Has Its Quirks
I purchased this soldering iron stand to replace the cheap fold-able piece of aluminum that my iron kit came with. I chose this holder over any other because of the coiled tip cleaner rather than a sponge. As for quality of the holder, it feels well made. It has a nice weight to it and doesn't move around on my workbench. My complaint as for quality revolves around the tip cleaner. The ball of coiled metal comes in it's own little bag and is very tightly balled up. The dish that the coil sits in does not fit into the holder very well. It has play from side to side and can lift out very easily when being used. I simply put some tape on the underside of the dish to keep it in place. Back to the coiled tip cleaner. The cleaner works very well at first, and makes tinning the tip of the iron easy, but it's after heavy use that the ball of coiled metal starts to 'unwind' and begins pulling out of its dish. I've found it's best to just rotate the ball every now and again in order to avoid this. As for the holder itself, it keeps my iron in place and does it's job nicely. The only complaint is that it does heat up rather quickly on the outside and can become warm or almost hot to the touch. No where near melting, but just something worth noting.Despite the cons, I would recommend this holder to anyone that needs an upgrade for a soldering iron holder.

Helps make tips last a long time!
Ive been soldering for many years and was still a blundering novice when I bought this item. I found a wonderful video that taught me about the right way to tin my tips and WOW!!.Its amazing how such a little thing can change the whole game. I'll give you the gist of it. 250°c is the temp for tinning. Once the solder(no matter what kind) is on your tip, "gently" poke the tip into the cleaning pad and twist your wrist and pull it out. You will see the tip shining with a smooth coating of solder.Thats it. A perfect tin. When your soldering do this poke and twist motion OFTEN. Dont load your tip up with solder and leave it for more than a few, 5-7 sec. at the most. It will burn off the rosin and start oxidizing(eating away at your tip)quickly, if more than a few seconds go by "poke and twist'. Just keep doing this action and be amazed at how long a tip can last. I was!! Oh yeah, Im still a novice but a smarter one. Thank you.

Excellent quality for the price
This stand is excellent value. You basically get a stand and a brass tip cleaner for the price of a brass tip cleaner by itself. The build is solid and it is nice and weighty where I would not worry about it tipping over.I am using this with my Chinese T12 soldering station with "T12-9501" handle that is around 18.5mm in diameter. For my use the holder is non-ideal, but usable. The handle rests in the holder without much risk of falling out, but it is very loose. The holder has an inner metal tube with an external diameter of around 16.6mm (I could not measure inner diameter). The the black plastic part of the holder has two diameter steps: the first has an internal diameter of about 24.8mm and the next is around 31.3mm. A soldering iron with an external diameter closer to one of those two dimensions has a much higher chance of working well with this holder.

Looks and feels very solid.
Arrived, in explicably, with the little brass cup crushed on one side. This was NOT a packaging error as it would be impossible to crush it in mishandling during packaging for shipping or in the shipping itself (the damage was done, and apparently hidden, by an employee at the manufacturer).I can't find any contact info for Aven. I'm hoping they'll see this and work out a way to get me a replacement brass cup for the tip cleaner portion of this.Otherwise, it looks perfectly functional.Update: Aven sells just the little brass cup and brass-wire-wad separately. Amazon was going to refund the purchase price of this whole unit, but I had them just refund the price for the bit I need. Very fast response.I will say that my attempting to reshape the brass cup (the one I got looks like it got pinched by some machinery in the factory and QA failed to pick up the flaw) and failing speaks highly for its durability. That little bugger is one tough cookie. I look forward to many years of hobby work with this.

All in one unit works well.
I like that this is an all in one unit. Works well with a standard soldering iron. I have a smaller one for SMD circuits so you have to be a little bit more conscious to be sure the iron does not fall out. Thats a minor gripe, otherwise works very well for me.

Good solid stand
I really like this stand. It's functional and relatively adaptable. It fits all three irons I have, although my main iron doesn't fit cleanly. The tip cleaner works well and the stand has a good with and relatively good balance. Overall, it work well with a wide array of irons. I do wish it fit my main iron better as it doesn't seat fully in the holder but it sits deep enough for a stable hold.

Pleasantly surprised by the build
Fantastic holder. I have an old Weller SP23L. Never liked putting the thing down on a table while hot and didn't really have a good way of cleaning the tip when I use it. So I looked around, at first, for something that was just mediocre. I didnt need anything incredible or long lasting. So I purchased the Aven unit because the price was attractive and was definitely pleasantly surprised. First of all the whole thing weighs a pretty substantial amount. The grey sheet metal used to make the base is actually a decently dense material. While I thought it was going to be flimsy, the metal sheet turned out to be pretty substantial coming in at about 2mm in thickness and very stable, meaning the unit, even with my iron in it, doesn't topple easily. Even the brass cleaning pad and the container it sits in looks fantastic and seems to be very use friendly. Only thing that I am offput by is the use of plastic material to create the black ring element that the iron sits on (in the image thats the only black piece of plastic). I would imagine thats the first thing to break on this unit, as even a slight misplacement of the iron while hot could damage or warp the material. But so far, my uses have not caused this to happen, and the whole unit is fantastically sturdy and well put together. Amazing buy for the price.

Such an important safety device to have
With my setups, my stuff is getting mvoed around all the time, so that's not really soldering friendly. This holster let's me be a lotsafer doing that, so I don't think I would work without one now.If you don't have a secure holster for your iron, get this one, you will be glad you did

Garbage, broken on day 3
The center piece that housed the hot iron tip fell out on day 3 and now doesn't stay put and is of zero use. Garbage. Don't waste your money.

May come in damaged.
Arrived damaged. The brass sponge holder was all dinged up and scuffed. This didn't prevent it from working, but I didn't pay for damaged goods.

Plastic holder came damaged.
The black plastic part that holds the metal rod arrived broken. This made it looser when attached to the metal frame. I'd probably look at something else if you don't need the brass cleaner.
