60GB IDE Toshiba 4200RPM 2MB 8.0mm 1.8" MK6006GAH from VEMA Electronics
I ordered what was advertised as a "new" Toshiba MK6006GAH hard drive from VEMA Electronics. Ordering was easy, shipping was fast. I wanted this drive to breath new life into my old Sony Vaio TR3A laptop. Please note that this is a 1.8" hard drive like the kind that came in earlier ipods. Also note that the drive has a small Apple logo on the label, indicating that it is an OEM Apple ipod drive. I installed the hard drive and promptly installed Gentoo Linux. Since I was suspicious of this drives supposed newness, I installed Red Hat Disk Utility so I could verify it's condition. It was showing Powered On = 286 days and Power Cycles = 10107. That doesn't look like a new hard drive to me. In fact it looks like a pretty beat drive from an old ipod. Over 10000 power cycles? I don't believe this drive will last long. I own drives that are three years old and they don't have >100 power cycles. So I contacted VEMA electronics and was told that their warehouse staff made a shipping error, implying that they sent the wrong drive. They then offer me a 50% refund. I replied that I was expecting a new hard drive and requested that they send me the correct one. They replied that they did not have any new drives in stock, even though their site listed one. At that point I realized that this was a losing battle, so I accepted the 50% refund and I'll just have to wait for my $29 hard drive to fail. So to conclude my review, beware of VEMA Electronics as they advertised used items as new and hope the purchaser does not realize it. Also I'm not real pleased with Amazon as I thought they screen their vendors to weed out the scammers. I guess this is not the case so I'm done with Amazon as well.

Old iPod Lives Again!
First the battery died on my six-year-old 4G iPod 40GB, then the hard drive suffered the clicks-of-death. The battery was cheap, but this 60GB drive was a bit pricey. Both were very easy to install, though, and now the iPod can hold my entire CD library. If I get another six years out of it, I'll be thrilled. One installation note, if anyone is buying this drive for the same purpose: one of the drive's keyed guide holes (they're on either side of the connector pins) had a plastic plug inserted that prevented the connector from being attached. Once I pried this out with a sewing pin, everything fit together perfectly.

Came quickly, great price
Be aware this is the 8mm drive and may not fit in your iPod. Mine took the thinner 5mm drive and I had to return this one. Drive appeared as promised - "NEW" (no witness marks or scuffs from prior insertions).

Great for iPod 3G
I used this drive to replace a dead drive in an iPod 3G I refurbished for RetroSonicFidelity. I really like this drive in the iPod because of the weight it gives to the iPod. Although flash storage will last longer and draw less power from the battery, I still really like the weight this gives the iPod over the power benefits of flash storage.

Fix your iPod yourself
My HD went bad on my iPod photo, and I replaced it with this unit. It is the same exact HD that is supplied with iPods. Works well, and is MUCH cheaper than Apple's replacement service. I've replaced a generation 2 iPod HD as well with the 4006, which actually made it run better. The generation 2 iPods used 4004 models so these save power and seem to access faster.

Does what it says
Initially, after reading several reviews, I was concerned about the product actually being new. When it arrived, and I ran smartctl - I was happy to find it was actually a new drive. It will serve as an excellent replacement drive for my Sony Vaio VGN-TX770P.

Good drive if you get it from Dulcet LLC
It is the company that sells these, Dulcet, that impressed me most. They helped me get the right one when I ordered wrong. Great company to do business with. The drive is fine. Toshiba makes a good one. Still going strong. No Problems. Just make sure whether you need the ribbon drive or pin drive.
