D’Addario Spector Violin Mute - Reduces Volume While Playing - Great for Practicing Quietly - Copper

Got tired of the traditional tourte mute rattling and got this to replace it. It does the job, but is not as powerful as a traditional mute—maybe a 50-66% mute by comparison. It was easy to install and is even easier to use. To be clear, this is a performance mute for playing "con sordino" passages, not a practice mute.

I have a cheap Cecilio electric violin that can sound rather shrill acoustically and amplified without some kind of mute. The larger boot-style mutes help mellow the sound and lower the volume, but can make the G and D strings sound rather muddy. I use two of these D'Addario mutes to dampen all the strings and they retain a little more volume and tonal character while lessening the shrillness. They also attach more securely than the other kinds of mutes that can also shift a bit when moving around.Because a lot of electric violins aren't hollow with a chamber for resonance, they can tend to need something to mellow out their tone. I keep these mutes on all the time and use acoustic simulator pedals and get a pretty decent sound out of my setup without being so loud that I annoy the neighbors.

It fits perfectly between the strings. Doesn’t move or rattle. Sound wise it isn’t as special as wooden mutes but the ease of use makes it a winner. It’s the second time I’m purchasing this type, after the old one wore out ( after approx 20 years of use!)

The best violin mute, imo. It is about the fastest to engage and disengage, and it doesn’t rattle when not in use. I recommend this style mute to all my students and colleagues. Very unfortunate they don’t make them for other string instruments.

In the first place "copper" is not an accurate description for this product as it is made entirely of ordinary rubber. It demonstrates only minimal effectiveness as a violin mute, and when in place it serves only to slightly take the tinny edge off the sound of my inexpensive instrument. Two of advantages are (1) it sits securely between two strings and slides easily onto the bridge with little effort, and (2) it will not erode the winding on your strings like a Roth-Sihon mute will. It's not a bad product, but I can't give it five stars.

Just takes that harsh edge off. I use either rubber or big metal mute when practicing and not wanting to bother neighbors; this is perfect for practicing and not sacrificing tone but just takes down that shrill component. It’s not designed to make it significantly more quiet. There’s nice on line comparisons of different mutes. This is just part of a spectrum

Really easy to use performance mute. ***Not to be confused with a practice mute which will deaden the sound a lot more.*** This just takes off the nasally high edge of the violin and makes sound richer in my opinion. When you're not playing in a big concert hall, this is the way to go.

This is my favorite performance mute. Easy to install, easy to slide up onto bridge, soft enough not to damage strings between bridge and tailpiece, can be rejuvenated with rubbing alcohol if rubber gets hard. Mutes the volume just enough. NOTE: This is not a practice mute! See the heavier, larger, rubber-covered, 4-prong (or the smaller 3-prong) mutes that fit over the bridge.

It doesn’t mute anything the muter only makes your instrument sound like it’s underwater. It is not easy to take off the strings. Product is too expensive and not worth your time nor money👎.

使っていたミュートのつけ外し時の雑音が気になり、市民オケの演奏会用に購入。静かに簡単にスライド動作でつけはずしができ、気に入りました。弦と弦がミュートのサイド部の溝にしっかりと　はまっている構造で、使用しない時も落ちず、安心です。でも、何回も使用しているうちに、だんだんサイド部のみぞ幅が広がってきたらアウトだと思われることと、弱音器としての音量の減りが少ない（ゴム製と比較）ので　☆ー１です。

全く効果のないミュートでした。結局昔使っていた黒いゴムのミュートを使用することにしました。返品しようか迷いましたが、返品に関する細かい注意点の説明書が同封されており、内容があまりにも面倒なため、返品するのはやめました。もう二度と買いません。
