Luminar keeps getting better and better
I've been using Luminar as a plug in with the original 2017 and the 2018 versions. This new version of Luminar 3 now has the ability to create its own Catalog. Wooooo!!!!! That in itself is amazing! The current version I've been using for the last few weeks is 3.0.2. I just got notified a new update is available unfortunately my internet connection is slow enough that I've not downloaded it yet. Apparently Facial recognition is in the pipeline. So my usual catalog program is Lightroom. However with this new version of Luminar building in a catalog is making me rethink how I work with my images. For sure the Luminar catalog is not as powerfull as Lightroom at this point. But Skylum has an amazing record of innovation and they listen to their users about problems and feature requests. It takes time to build in a lot of the advanced features, but from what I've seen Skylum is rapidly advancing their software whereas other more established companies (adobe) seem to ignore user feedback and haven't added any significant features to their software in quite some time. So, about LuminarI'm liking the ease of the "Looks". Also creating and saving your own looks is really simple. At this point the Catalog is off to a good start, but needs some more work to make it really useful. For instance there currently is no way to create custom searches that I can find. Also no way to edit metadata. My hope is that this will show up in future versions. The edit tab has super useful tools that I've never found in other software. Looks like Accent Filter, Sky Enhancer, Remove Colour cast. And it has a built in LUT Mapping feature. The best part of the Edit tab is I can chose exactly which tools I want to appear, and even save that setup for future use.And the best part of Luminar is still present. The ability to create Layers. Such an important tool for photo editing yet noticeably absent in lightroom.Do I recommend buying Luminar? Absolutely. It has powerful tools for image editing even if used as a plugin with Lightroom. And with the increasing feature set it is on its way to becoming a complete stand alone catalog and editing platform.

I returned the software - way to cumbersome to use
Good for everyone to know I wasn't the only one having problems with Luminar - these are quotes from one of my photography websites. In my case it opened all of my photos, 1,805 folders containing 155,841 file - I did not want that - that is insane opening every photo on my hard drive. I returned the software - way to cumbersome to useI downloaded Luminar 3 and when I opened it, it looks like it imported all my photos (don't like that - don't want them all in Luminar). I didn't investigate too far because it is slow, but looks like all my photos are in there 3 times.I then downloaded the update, which is supposed to take care of duplication?, and I still see three of each photo. Anyone know 1)How do I get rid of the duplicates? 2)As an alternative, how do I uninstall the current Luminar3 and reinstall later? Anyone think that will fix the duplication - starting over from scratch?I'm using Windows10I had the same triplication when I put my photos in Apple's iCloud and have no download of any Luminar version. What computer operating system are you using?I recently updated from Luminar2018 to Luminar 3. On first launch, it asked me where my digital files were located. Then it opened them with duplicates (2 identical files, side by side).Didn't have time to mess with it. Please let me know if anyone has a remedy.Luminar 3 is a nightmare. Was not ready to be released.... more Beta than prime time. They are trying to fix but it will be a month out to get right. The library function is weak at best and no where near Lightroom and is useless.Luminar 2018 works. Stay with it for now.Until they prove they got it right the best thing too do is avoid this release. It is slow to load and their use of AI leaves a lot to be desired.Yes, Luminar 3 is slow to open, slow to operate, and doubles and triples images. The program has potentials, but still has many kinks to iron out. I hope Skylum software engineers will get going, and provide us with the program they promised.I have run into the opposite as a problem! I CAN'T, upload my photos to 3!! Also, it freezes. Definitely, stick with 2018 for now, would be my recommendation. At least that all seems to work just fine with no issues.

Clunky
The software has nice features, but I find the interface cumbersome. It seems like it's trying to be intuitive, but, for me, it's anything but. File saving is very clumsy. The program takes a long time to load, works slowly and crashes a lot. Maybe it works better with a solid-state drive, but it shouldn't crash, even with a regular hard drive. I'm going to uninstall this software and try to get a refund.

Excellent software and tech support
We had a technical problem with the new software (the program kept closing itself down). Tech support was very helpful and responsive. Reps sent step-by-step procedures to fix the problem, and after several iterations, we got the program working. We've used it now for several weeks, without a hitch. This is really terrific image editing software. It's relatively easy to use and offers a wide range of options. Excellent software, excellent tech support; Luminar is a great choice.

Great photo editing for everyone
I am a huge fan of the Aurora HDR software that Skylum makes so I decided to try their Luminar photo editing. I found it easy to use with great results. I really love the presets or looks that the software allows you to add to any image quickly with great results. They also can act a a great starting point allowing you to tweak the images to get them exactly as you want. All in all a great image editing product.
