Every aspect of this enthralling documentary is worth five stars. The climb itself is superbly shot and the climbing death defying and gravity defying in equal measure. But the film is so much more than the climb itself, the 'background story' is perfectly judged, adding a human factor to the climbing action without distracting from it. They are all slightly mad of course, but so engagingly so.The first film I've seen in a long time I would recommend to anyone and without hesitation.

A great film about a man with amazing courage. Worth watching

What an incredible documentary and human achievement!

Free Solo is an incredibly gripping film. The intensity and sheer audacity of Alex Honnold's free solo climb are nothing short of breathtaking. It's a thrilling and heart-pounding cinematic experience that will leave you holding your breath sat on the edge of your seat.

The challenge covered in this full length film on climbing the iconic El Capitan face in the US without support or ropes and the steps taken to prepare. It is full of drama and tension and very well filmed and produced. If you are interested in adventure sports of any kind and in climbing in particular it will be of interest. Real 'deering-do' stuff. There was good coverage of some of the crux moves on the long climb and how they were achieved, but I should have preferred more of this and a little less on the relationship of the climber, Alex Honnold with his girlfriend in the lead up to this epic climb. That was a small price to pay however, for a great and gripping story.

Absolutely great, edge of seat stuff

The determination, passion and craziness of Alex Honnold makes this a must-watch. This documentary will make you want to go and climb a mountain (but maybe not quite in the way that Alex does it!). To have a passion like this is something a lot of people can only dream of. Very inspiring.

This has to be one of the most extraordinary feats of human endeavour captured on film. The film is beautifully and sensitively made so that we follow a gruelling, intimate, personal endeavour that touches on all areas of the life of a number of Human beings, and Alex Honnold in particular, without feeling as through we are voyeurs in some clandestine fly on the wall docudrama. I have now watched this particular film over half a dozen times and I suggest it for my clients. What takes place and is captured in this film are lessons for life for every single human being without exception. I feel privileged every time I see it.

Free Solo is a film documenting the first solo ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without use use of ropes or other safety device. I wanted to get the Blu-Ray which is unavailable in Region 1 on Amazon or anywhere at a reasonable price. This Blu-Ray is Region coded B (Europe) and will not play on most blu-ray players in the United States. Since I like some foreign films, I purchased a mult-region player and it plays just fine.. the only drawback is, it will not play on most other players. The warning was made clear, and the disc arrived on time, and well protected.Having just been out to Yosemite for the first time in 42 years, it was well worth it to me to purchase the Region 2 disc.

英語とドイツ語で聴くことができて、それでいて送料込みで600円というのは破格でした。ジム・ブリッドウェル、トミー・コールドウェルとエルキャップの時代を築いてきたクライマー達に、アレックス・オノルドという奇才が参入し、連続的ではないが、確固とした一時代を築いた、その軌跡を追うドキュメンタリーです。フリークライマーにとっては垂涎の一作品だと思いますが、クライマーでなくても楽しめる内容になっていると思います。

The entire documentary is constructed around Alex Honnold's lifelong obsession to climb El Capitan without the aid of ropes or climbing equipment. We see the tension build as director, Jimmy Chin, and his superb team record Alex's failed "dry runs" with the use of safety gear. He is somewhat distracted by the camera team's intrusive surveillance of his earlier climbs, and we are never sure he can pull it off. He abandons one attempt and is injured during another. But Alex has a rendezvous with destiny. As one of his colleagues put it: "It is like reaching for Olympic gold, and if you loose, you die"

Die Besteigung des El Capitan ist wahrscheinlich eine der besten und größten athletischen Leistungen die je erbracht wurden. dazu kommt noch die mentale Seite -außerordentlich. Auch die Story die Einbindung des Teams und der Freundin -einfach perfekt. Regie und Kameraführung verdienen noch einen extra-Oskar absolut empfehlenwert. NIcht zu vergessen,daß Honnold ein Drittel seines Einkommens für einen guten Zweck zu Verfügung stellt!Zu der einen Rezension die nur einen Stern vergibt -weil zu wenig Kletterszenen: das stimmt tatsächlich, wer erwartet daß man hier die Bewgungsabläufe ganz detialliert und genau über längere Zeit sieht wird enttäuscht sein-was ich verstehen kann-da der Film aber versucht die ganze Historie von Alex Honnold zu erfassen und das ganz drum-herum der Besteigung des El Capitan, würde sich das zeitlich nicht ausgehen . Der Film müßte dann 3 Stunden und länger sein-und es würde die ganze Spannung verloren gehen. Es finden sich genügend Vidoes auf You Tube wo man die Klettertechnik gut verfolgen kann-Nur einen Stern hat sich der Film wirklich nicht verdient!
