British Museum had a great exhibit on Hokusai
British Museum had a great exhibit on Hokusai. The book is heavy so ordered it here vs carrying back from London. Beautiful pictures. Well worth having in the library.

The book shows some signs of wear but that's expected when buying something used. I like how comprehensive the book is compared with the shorter book accompanying the current exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, he was an incredible artist indeed!

Thorough
A well presented and thorough overview of Hokusai's work. Informative text and good reproductions of many of his works - as someone who has some surveys of Japanese prints this book brings a level of detail and perspective thatis hard to find. A very big book with an interesting section that links to european works influenced by Hokusai in the 19th century.

An essential purchase for lovers of the masters work
A proportion of potential buyers of this wonderful book will have either attended or be considering attending the fabulous exhibition currently open at the British Museum covering a selection of the prints paintings and illustrated books of the Japanese master Hokusai. The exhibition is a joy but inevitably with the throng of viewers one cannot give proper attention to the exhibits. Despite that grumble make sure you attend The exhibition is mounted with the high standards we have come to expect of the British Museum. This book is the perfect souvenir with essays covering the masters life and work and a collection of images printed to a stunningly high standard colours very accurate and pin sharp I can give no higher tribute than browsing the books pages makes you want to attend the exhibition again and again while it is still possible to do so.Sadly it is an expensive purchase but the book confirms the view that price and value are not the same thing at all and this book is worth every penny.

A sustained pleasure
A lovely book. Great quality of printing and good quality of paper. The essays are readable and informative but of course we buy a book like this for the reproductions. The book excels with great colour rendition. While it is impossible to reproduce the vibrancy of the original colours this book does at least as well as anything else I have seen.Keeping to a roughly chronological sequence through a time line of 40 years of printed work this book adds so much to seeing quite why his work managed to make an immediate impact and then have a sustained life for the last 150 years. It is so easy to forget WHEN these works were made, and if you look up a timeline database of what else was happening when he was alive and working it adds so much to the feeling that this collection of work is simply breathtaking.A great purchase. Would make a fabulous gift for someone. Must add the seller took great care to ensure it arrived in perfect condition, and paperbacks are so vulnerable in delivery, well done seller.

Hurrah for Hokusai!
This is a fabulous book and required reading ahead of the exhibition later this year at the British Museum. Hokusai, probably the greatest of Japanese ukioy-e masters, would have been delighted with this. Printing is of uniformly good quality and the colours in the plates sharp. Highly recommended.

A lot of pictures and value for the money
I have earlier received this book as a gift, and now I bought another copy to give away. It is an incredible amount of pictures in good quality showing the breadth of Hokusai's work with something to interest almost anyone. The book is fine for someone interested in manga, as it is possible to see a line from Hokusai to today's mangas.

Excellent representation of Hokusai's work
Fabulous pictures and a good representation of the artist's work through a number of periods of his long life. It could have done with more information on the artist but this is being picky as this book is an excellent buy for the money.
