Great insights into creating a great body
I've actually bought this book 3 times. I've given away two copies and read it again and again.

Good Book
Good book for beginners & intermediate trainers. Teaches the basic exercises and how to do them properly, why and what muscles you're hitting. As a more advanced bodybuilder, I didn't learn a heck of a lot, but just hearing it from someone who had such an awesome physique, is nice. I was hoping for more about Bobs eating, nutrition and supplements he took. Obviously one could not look like that without having taken lots of "juice" (steroids) and I hope handsome Bob hasn't had any health issues because of it. Not that kind of "tell all" book where he would bring that up.

Fantastic, insightful, and very detailed coaching.
A true genius and artiste in the body-building field, and amazing ability to verbally convey his training philosophy. A hard-core perfectionist and in my eyes a true demi-god. Also, I love the fact that he is very open and honest about issues such as steroids, and doesn't obfuscate these issues, because a lot of workout information contains routines for people who are on strong performance enhancers, and it is not fair (and even dangerous), to hand these routines/suggestions to others who want to grow more organically. I have been training for over 7 years, and thought I was very literate in fitness, yet I still managed to learn more than a thing or two from Bob.

Okay. But leaves a lot to be desired.
I bought this book based on all the fantastic reviews. (I read them all.) Ones that said: BEST WORK OUT BOOK I'VE EVER OWNED, Very Realistic, and The perfect training programUnfortunately I have to go along with the couple that said: Well intentioned but flawed in terms of real life and, Somewhat Unrealistic. In the two plus years that I have been going to the gym, buying and reading workout books, and gathering all the information I can on bodybuilding, I have learned a couple things. 1) There is no perfect workout. 2) Every person is different and will make better gains on some workouts than other workout routines. So there is a place for Bob Paris's workout routines and I am using one of them now. But as mentioned already, they are very long and will quickly lead to over training, especially for beginners. Also, they do not include much variation, i.e., the set and rep schemes are all pretty similar. The SAID principle (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands) is scientifically established and proves that variation in workout routines are required if you want to continue to make gains. (Unless you are one of the few who are genetically gifted.)The part where he describes feeling the muscles is a good approach but I feel he did not expound on it as well as he could have. Some illustrations would have been nice. The nutrition part is okay but since the book was published much more is known about nutrition and hormones and exercising than was know then, so there is better information for those who are serious. As the one and only workout book, I give it 1 star. As an additional workout book, I give it 3 stars.

Really Works
I bought this 20 years ago and lost it so I ordered this one.My wife and I did this for 7 weeks, didn't make it to 10 weeks but had amazing transformation. My brother did it at the same time for the 10 week program and his transformation was incredible. He continued and looked like Bob Paris on the cover. He shows you don't have to use massive weights with all the grunting and screaming like the idiots at the gym.You use light weights and do the reps very slowly especially when retracting returning to rest position. You only do this every other day. We biked or walked on the off days. I am going to try it again

Should be essential reading for anyone serious about bodybuilding
One of the best guides to bodybuilding you are likely to find. No fluff. Just real tips from a guy who had one of the best physiques of all time. He saw himself as an artist, and he gives you insight on what you need to do for yourself to have a great physique too. Not just the exercises, but how to put it all together. His other books are great too. Should be essential reading for anyone serious about bodybuilding

Good book!
The nutrition part is absolutely interesting: Bob gives al lot of advices to adjust our personal diet (ratio of macronutrients and supplements). He suggests to stay between 2000-3500 max calories per day (no cheat meals and junk food also in off-season).In my opinion his training routines have too many exercises also for trainers with experience.

Comprehensive and Honest Advice
Additional value to the standard bodybuilding books is the visualization and the diet advice. His routines are similar to Bill Pearl, or Franco's beginning bodybuilding, low to medium weights, high rep sets. I have upgraded this to five stars, because I am nearly done with the Apprenticeship program and it's the first time in 15 years my body has taken the shape of a bodybuilder rather than someone who looks like an occasional gym goer. Sessions are two hours long, so it's a big commitment, but well worth it.
