For reference, I have owned many guitars, cheap and expensive. I bought this to cut apart and create a frankenstein guitar for halloween. I can honestly say that when I played the bass as it was, I was so impressed with the quality and sound that I had a hard time going through with my plan. The good:Cheap. All electronics worked great. High quality components: everything was installed using lock washers, pickup was potted in epoxy, Tuners are solid and the bass holds tune as well as any I've tried. Ebony (I think) fretboard. All black hardware. Body is nice heavy wood. The sound is great, a good balance of tone for a single pickup. No buzzing anywhere on the neck. The bad:Basically nothing. Just my personal preference, I'd like the pickup a little closer to the bridge. In my opinion, this thing is an INCREDIBLE deal for $100.

The sound is quite decent if you match it with a good amp. It doesn't have a wide tonal pallete
This was quite a surprise. For the price I wasn't expecting much. The sound is quite decent if you match it with a good amp. It doesn't have a wide tonal pallete, but for ROCK and METAL is perfect. Like every online instrument purchase, you have to know how to setup or take it to someone who knows, for a proper setup. I managed to get a decent low action without any fretbuzz.

Excellent bass for the price
I am a guitar player who plays bass only for my recordings. Since I loaned out my old junk bass, I was in need of a bass for some recordings I am doing. I didn't have a lot of cash, so I was glad to find this Dean. Since this is a great bass, I'll start with the negatives and end with the positives.Negatives:* The body of the guitar looks like it was just spray painted with flat black spray paint, and you can see wood grain through it in some spots. It's not the type of finish that is meant to show wood grains. Since I'm only using it for recording, this is not an issue to me. If you don't mind a rough, base look, it won't be an issue to you, either.* There was some fret buzz, which is more of an issue than the way it looks. I raised the bridge saddles a little and it took care of most of the buzz. Oddly, I don't hear any buzz at all in my recordings, so this really isn't an issue, either.Positives:* The price is great, and you get a good bass for the price.* I used to have a similarly priced Danelectro bass that didn't have a truss rod, and it was junk compared to this Dean. The Dean does have a truss rod and it feels pretty solid.* It has a pretty good sound to it.This is obviously not a top of the line bass, and a pro probably wouldn't want to use this other than to practice around on. But this bass is excellent for what I need it for. If you are looking to get a bass guitar for close to $100, you'll be very pleased with this guitar.

Great bass for small church or venue.
bought this to use for a church bass for our small church (seats about 300). Perfect. Has a very clean sound and is great as part of our acoustic guitar, drummer, keyboard group. The kid who is using it is 15 and very talented, makes it sound awesome.

Can't beat the price.
This was my first bass. Played and owned a few guitars over the years. I've had this bass for a while. It's been a good tool for learning and growing on

great value instrument
my 1st bass guitar (have other electric/acoustic 6-strings & 12-strings). have only spent a few hours with it, so far, so good. 4/5 stars as the fit & finish is good but one minor hiccup with the paint flaking off the bottom strap button - see attached picture. it's covered up by the strap anyways. nothing sharp or misaligned, machine heads hold tune, volume & tone knobs fully functional, very satisfied with price & value of this instrument.
