Quarterback: Inside the Most Important Position in the National Football League

Terrific book - must read for NFL fans!
I thought this book provided a fascinating insider’s view of the quarterback position both on and off the field. I consume a lot of sports journalism and programming and it seems like athletes are overly “media trained” to the point where they no longer say anything particularly interesting. Feinstein clearly spent so much time with the five subjects of this book that they had the opportunity to be thoughtful and insightful and they even let their guard down at times which was refreshing. Plus, you’d think that being a starting NFL quarterback, the toast of your town and ludicrously well compensated would warp your perspective on life but somehow, the four active QBs in the book come across as normal and good guys (of course, there are exceptions who aren’t featured in the book). I enjoyed reading about the varied life stories of all the featured quarterbacks but Doug Williams’s story was definitely the most interesting and inspirational. Now having read this book, I think I will have a different perspective when following the NFL and watching games.

Feinstein Does It Again
For an author who has spent most of his writing about professional golfers and ACC college basketball, John Feinstein does a great job of providing insight into what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. The writing is crisp and flows well. He never gets bogged down. This is a great book for the dedicated NFL fan, and one that a casual fan as well will enjoy. I highly recommend it.

Not Feinstein at his best
I bought this book with great hopes. Feinstein, football - what more could you ask for?Unfortunately, Feinstein produced the Andy Dalton of football books - nothing terribly bad but well below and elite level. There are some insightful moments around a couple of the QBs he highlights but, for the most part, this is a rehash of material that most football fans already know.At times, it felt like he mostly wanted to write a book trashing Dan Snyder (a book that would probably have been better). Overall, the book lacked a solid theme, it lacked insight from truly elite QBs and black QBs from this century were also missing. Not John's best effort.

Excellent read
I love football. The insights from Feinstein is incredible. Especially with what has happened to the quarterbacks mentioned in this book. Alex Smith ruined leg. Flacco getting replaced by Jackson in Baltimore and then falling apart in Denver. Ryan Fitzpatrick doing his thing in Miami with ANOTHER first round pick nipping at his heels. Then of course Andrew Luck suddenly retiring in Indy. Crazy

Feinstein’s always a great read....
And this book did not disappoint. Reading it a couple of years was interesting because I know the “end” or “next” point. That made the book better and worse in some ways. At the end of the day, Feinstein is a master writer.....one of my favorites for sure.

Quarterback puts you in the position of Quarterback
I love the way John Feinstein puts you on the sideline, on the field and in the heads of some of the games best quarterbacks. Next Man Up was the 1st Feinstein book I read. Again, puts you in the action, decisions, and trials me issues of being in the NFL. Both great books

Excellent
I have read every book John Feinstein has written . Feinstein has a knack for picking very interesting topics for his books. Feinstein takes a deep dive into the lives of NFL quarterbacks. What I liked most about the book was how he humanized the players and got us into their heads. I have much more respect for these quarterbacks thanks to this book. Excellent read.

I Expected Much More Insight From An Expert Writer
The first 1/3 of this book is interesting but unfortunately it fizzled out quickly after that into a rehash of the 2017 season.Feinstein is an excellent reporter and writer so I expected much more insight into the minds of the quarterbacks that he focuses on -- what they're thinking when they're scanning the field under extreme pressure from 1,500 pounds of oncoming defense, what the choices are, what worked and why, and what didn't work one time when it worked other times. This book would have been much better with more insight from the quarterbacks about the choices they actually saw in the moment and why they made the decisions they did -- all in a matter of seconds.

Damaged sleeve
As it is a gift I am disappointed that when book arrived the sleeve was torn.

Average at best.
I found the title misleading. Rather than a deep look into the position of an NFL quarterback, the book rambles back and forth with descriptions of entire games, often through multiple games at the same time. There was some interesting moments with the quarterbacks, but they were very few and far between. It seemed as though he’d chatted to each quarterback over a brief lunch and stretched an entire book out of it.I’d recommend this book if you are a serious fanatic of the game.
