CASP+ CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Second Edition (Exam CAS-003)

So - after I took the CASP exam last FRI and used the Sybex book - I realized how unprepared I was. Having gone through other methods of prep as well using any info I could find - plus watching the CASP videos on YouTube -- I thought I had this down - since I'm a professional hacker and red teamer. The other book was trash. The positive aspects of this book by McGraw Hill is that there is a practice exam online + performance questions that are very close to the exam + a pre-test to discover where your knowledge gaps are. Those are 3 MAIN ITEMS you need to prep for CASP+. The Chapter Summaries are very well organized. This book brings you very close to the exam environment. The online Sybex exam practice just used the same questions one finds within the book and no labs - no performance questions - nothing. I also found after reading through several chapter thus far - it is more detailed than the competition. I used Pearson Vue only study guides coupled with Sybex in the past...but I am very glad to have purchased this book for my study of CASP. I tried to rush the exam in 60+ days -- and I should not have done that. I think I was very close to the pass mark -- but this book should do the trick. There is also a Udemy course ($11) for video instruction if you can't find the YouTube CASP videos. I've always had 1 first time past with CompTIA after 6 months of study and prep. DOn't try to wing this exam - it's very technical and they ask you questions that could go either way -- make sure you read them and refer back to what you've learned from this book. Will hit it again in the next few months -- and I'll report back.

McGraw Hill books normally give you a great value. A big part of that is having the CD in the back that you can use to download a digital copy of the book. The content itself is normally a 7 on a scale of 1-10, but you can actually master the 7 because of all the resources. The more they take away the less appealing the 7 looks when you've got to pay upwards of $440 to sit for a test.I normally try to keep reviews strictly to content. However, after buying the A+, Network+, Security+, CySA+ Bundle, all with a digital copy, I think its only fair to expect the same level of value. Why not just charge $59.99 and include the additional resources.Its the toughest material you tackle for CompTIA and you cut corners? Strange

I only used this book to prepare for the exam. I have been in the field for a while so some information was a review. I passed on my first try and I feel this book helped with my preparation. I suggest giving yourself plenty of time to go thru the book since the material is very boring and repetitive.

Very well written book that covered all the required topics. Only improvements I would suggest are the following:Correction of grammatical errorsMore advanced chapter review questionsOther than these two I believe any and everyone can use this book as their only source to understand the concepts and pass the COMPTIA CASP+ exam.

This book is very well organized, each chapter covers a section of the exam objectives (i.e. chapter 1 maps to exam objective 1.1). I studied for 3 months and passed on first attempt using this book + the online content + the exam objectives as my primary resource and supplemented with the SYBEX practice tests book and another practice exam engine through skill port. Honestly though, this book was the best resource because it covered every exam objective in order and had examples of code and examples of router commands which is really key to passing the exam so pay attention to those pictures in the book (also look up some examples on your own) and go through the labs multiple times over along with all the practice questions you can find and don't second guess your answers on the exam! I marked probably 20+ questions for review during the exam and after my review, only changed one answer and went with my gut for all the others. Good luck!

Great book, excellent content and fun to read and follow. The exam had questions not fully covered in the book, but I have yet to find a certification book that covers everything you'll encounter on the exam. Recommend this one!

Assuming a candidate has some IT and Security experience (not necessarily 10 years) along with other certifications (Sec+, CySa+ and/or Pentest+), this book is more than enough to pass the exam (on first attempt). CompTIA suggests you have a some experience (10 years IT/Security) and maybe Cysa+ or Pentest+), so I will not say you can use this book alone to pass. I have experience in IT and Security (not 10 years) as well as other industry security certifications, which helped me with passing the exam while cutting some study time. Again, I can't say this book is enough to pass the exam with "no experience" but with a few practice labs (not a lot), and some experience it's definitely enough information provided.

The images and charts are not display properly on the Kindle devices but everything else is. That why I gave this 3 stars.

I used this book extensively prepping for the CompTIA CySA+ and found it, pared with Jason Dion's video course, to be a superb source, not just for the exam, but day to day since. An absolute must-have for any blue teamer.

Well written book and easy to follow. A bit lengthy, but overall do certainly recommend. A few dry topics but that is security! Comptia has updated their exam so this book might not contain newly established security knowledge.
