GI Joe 1993 Star Brigade Cobra Invader Vintage Vehicle

The year 1993 was the penultimate year of the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline. Subgroups were the norm of the day, with the majority of figures in the Battle Corps sub-set. The rest were relegated to the martial arts-oriented Ninja Force; the monster-hunting Mega Marines; the video game-themed Street Fighter II; and the out-of-this-world Star Brigade. Star Brigade took the fight against Cobra to the vastness of outer space, and among the vehicles in Cobra's arsenal was the little craft known as the Invader.Color/ConstructionThe entirety of the vehicle--whose parts you must remove via wire cutters from a series of "trees" and put together yourself--is a recolored version of the 1987 Cobra vehicle known as the POGO Ballistic Battle Ball, a small flight pod. The legs have been retooled with a hole for the included missile launcher (which was also recolored for another vehicle in this sub-set, the GI Joe Starfighter), but other than that it is identical in shape and form to the POGO. The majority of the body is black, while the canopy rim, legs, thrusters, antenna, and gun port are copper colored, and the seat, missiles and missile launcher are all neon green. The canopy glass is translucent green. It splits in two to open, and then you can put a figure (of an appropriate height) into the seat. The thruster base can move in a complete 360-degree circle, and the gun can pivot up and down. The missiles are removable.PlayabilityThe missile launcher is spring-loaded, and only one figure can fit inside the cockpit. Though the legs are sculpted as such, the shock absorbers do not actually spring up. The Invader comes with its blueprints (which double as the directions for putting the labels on and putting the vehicle together), and it takes a lot of imagination to come up with the schematics that list the vehicle's features.OverallThis is a fun little vehicle, and hey, who doesn't love spaceships? Especially "alien invader"-type spaceships...

As a 30+ adult, I decided to relive childhood in the form of the Cobra Invader. It arrived as advertised, complete with a sealed box, earlier than expected. 12/10 would order from this store again. They enabled me to relive my childhood at a more than reasonable price.
