Your Pilot's License, Eighth Edition

Eichenberger's "Your Pilots License" 8th
I recently bought this book, having owned the 7th edition that I had used quite a lot. This book is not a complete text or study guide on getting the private pilots license, you'll need another book for the real detailed items. However, I found this book to be the best for describing the process of getting the license, including a very good description of the exam process. In other words, what activities need to happen in what order, and how are they handled. It also makes a good review book for the student pilot or even the private pilot for certain materials, such as maneuvers, navigation, traffic patterns or wind correction. So, while it lacks some of the detail of a training book or text, I found it very useful and it was one of the main books I consulted regularly during all aspects of training, and sometime now when I wish to review some aspect of flying GA airplanes. It also has the best treatment of sport pilot vs recreational pilot vs private pilot I have found. All in all, I can recommend it strongly. Main difference in 7th and 8th editions are up-to-date treatment of sport pilot certificate, some training changes, and the use of a more modern airplane (a Tecnam Eaglet sport plane) and control panel in addition to the Cessna 152 previously used.

Very informative, easy to read and follow.
As a prospective new pilot, I had so many questions about the process and the requirements. This book provides a great overview of what you'll have to know and what to expect as you progress in your training. It also dabbles in techniques and instructions, so it does cross the line into the territory of instructional literature. The reason this works so well in this book is that it's very effective to say something like, "You'll test the electrical system before takeoff" and then to actually explain the procedure required to test the electrical system. This not only gives you the information, but puts you at ease because you now know the actual process and can easily wrap your head around it and realize, "Hey! I can do that!" All in all a very informative and easy to read book. Highly recommended if you're considering getting your pilot's license.

Info as advertised
Satisfied my interest in getting a feel for what all is involved in taking up aviation. Not too shallow, not too deep

A fantastic head start
This book provided me a great overview of what to expect during your training. This book also covers many of the relevant topics that will be covered more in depth during training. The books doesn't prepare you for the exams entirely but it educates you on what you will learn and also brings some practical experiences from the author. This book is great to learn terminology, general concepts and the do's and don't of flying. I would recommend reading this book during the early stages of your training before you start a ground school. Happy Flying!

Just what a new pilot needs
This is a great book for someone who is looking into learning to fly and even for those who have decide to. It has all the information you need and it covers a lot of what is covered in my ground school which costed $xxx if you know what I mean. However, its an easy read with very good information. My advice would be to buy it read the entire book then good out for your first flight. This way you can minimize you cost while maximizing your knowledge. Its always a good time to fly

Interesting introduction
This book was recommended by my instructor as an introduction to flying. It has an odd place in the aviation education curriculum especially when learning at home rather than ground school. The first half does provide a great intro with some interesting stories. The latter half attempts to discuss weather and flight planning but not at a level that is sufficient or well organized enough for me to learn from as a sole source of information. As a short introduction to flying and a complement to other more complete aviation texts this is a good buy.

Excellent primer
Yes you will need additional material to pass theory and check ride but this contains a lot info in a nice narrative format.

Concise Wisdom
In case Jerry Eichenberger reads these reviews, let me just say thank you. I'm through the first 3 chapters and your experienced wisdom has already shifted how I look at my forthcoming endeavor of earning a pilot's certificate. Wow!

Brilliant
Great book, very informative, some context is a bit dated but overall I've learnt a lot. I hasten to add that I am using to learn for Flight Sim flying and not real life flying.
