Another wonderful collection of photos
This is yet another terrific collection of Gordon Parks' photos, in this case his early work. Not only are there many photos, but the book also includes some lovely ephemera - such as posters (some in color), which are beautifully reproduced. The written material is quite interesting and informative, too.

A VERITABLE GRIOT
Among the greatest documentarians of his times. His technique is also amongst the most impeccable in photography. Don’t miss this one.

Photographer in Context!
Puts the artist in context of the times: difficult, as in a depression and how it affected nearly everyone of every background; other photographers; the arts scene; politics, etc. It is a lesson in that Parks used his own broad artistic endeavors and took advantage of opportunities to develop into a major photographer. A good summary, very simplified companion book (focuses on race and lacks broad context), is Gordon Parks: How the Photographer Captured Black and White America. Weatherford, Carole Boston.
