Zoom H4n Accessory Pack for DSLR

After testing each part of this package thoroughly i feel like i can write and honest and educated review.Overall I am quite impressed with the the whole package. Initially i was ordering this package for the shoe mount and the splitter, but the remote and windscreen were pretty neat. I'm using this pack in tandem with my Canon 60d, so keep that in mind for the rest of the review.The windscreen is straight forward. It does it's job. However i do not advise using it when you are attaching it to a DSLR due to the fibers getting in front of the lens. Use the foam windscreen the H4n came with in those situations.The remote is dope. Works as intended. No complaints.The shoe mount works very properly. There are a lot of reviews against the shoe mount because of it being too large or not fitting properly. Honestly it worked perfectly with my 60d. Even if your camera mount is too small for it, you can surely sand the shoe down to fit. not a big deal.The splitter works perfectly. It can work out of the zoom or out of your camera. It is better to attach it to your camera if you are using the zoom as a mic for DSLR shooting. Read my review below on the attenuator ("high grade") cable for more details.The high grade, or attenuator, cable gave me problems and i don't like it. Yes it works, however, you have to jack up the mic levels on your camera if you are choosing to use your zoom that way (using it as a camera mic). That is never a good thing because it warrants unwelcomed noise. It wants to be very picky with the splitter as well. For instance, your camera probably wont like it when you use the splitter with the high grade cable and headphones out for monitoring. You just won't get any signal from the monitor. You can plug the splitter into your zoom and it works fine however it defeats the purpose because you want to know what your audio is going to sound like from your camera. I used a simple stereo cable (like a cheap 1/8" (aux) cable you can buy at walmart for mp3s and such) and it solved all issues with the splitter. It caused my levels to be as low as possible on my camera and it allowed a monitor signal to output from the camera like it was supposed to. If there was any one bad thing about this pack... it is that cable, but it is a cheap fix. Like the pack is pretty cheap to get as is because on their own, the remote, splitter, and shoe cost a pretty penny. So i recommend getting this but with the stipulation of using a simple stereo cable over the high grade cable that comes in this pack. Overall 4 out of 5 stars on the pack because of the cable... 4 good products out of 5.

I've given this accessory pack a good rating because it works and I haven't had much issues with it. However, despite that, there's a few things I have a problem with which I'd like to mention:1.) I really wish this simply came with the Zoom H4N. Having to buy it separately seems like they're just trying to juice more cash out of me, which I suppose is exactly what it is. However, truth be told, the direct rival to the Zoom H4N, the Tascam DR-40 also does not come with any accessories. So, I'm not going to complain too much about this. It's more of an opinion of mine that these accessories should come with the recorder rather than be separate.2.) The hotshoe mount does not fit my Nikon D5500. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong - though with how simple a hotshoe mount is, I don't think there's many ways you can possibly try to insert it wrong. After searching online, I realised I'm not the only one with such an issue. One person stated they sanded it down. So, I figured well rather than buying another separate hotshoe mount, I'll do the same. Sanding down two opposing edges of the mount solves the issue. After sanding it down, I simply got a black marker to colour up the removed paint and voilà. No one is any the wiser. A bit of a nuisance that it doesn't work out of the box, but definitely worth noting for anyone who wishes to buy this accessory pack.If you have the extra cash, it may be worth just investing in a hotshoe ball mount such as the Manfrotto 492LCD. You'll get more flexibility with a ball head than you do with the static hotshoe mount in this accessory pack.--------------------So, all in all, it's a good accessory pack. The above two issues are the only things which bother me about it.

I bought this mainly because I was getting a lot of unwanted noise when I use the built in microphone for audio recording. The handling noise when you press buttons or just hold the h4n was eliminated by the remote. The ambient hiss and other noise however did not go away even with the dead cat attachment and even if we moved indoors. I ended up using a shotgun mic or lapel mic for audio recording. I guess the zoom h4n mic is really only useful if you want to record everything including ambient noise like when you wanna record a band playing multiple instruments.For other applications, better to use dedicated mica and plug their output tom the h4n either directly or through a mixer in the control room.In the end, I did not get what I wanted from this product and had to resort to buying other things. Using the remote to minimize handling noise became unnecessary if ur not using the built in mic. I still gave this 3 stars because I like the converter, splitter, audio cable and hot shoe adapter that comes with it..though I could have bought these separately at a fraction of the cost of this package.Bottom line. This could be a great product for people who want to use the h4n's ultra sensitive built in mic to record everything. But if I want to record good crisp audio without a lot of background noise, just use a shotgun or lapel mic.

Beardsman OutdoorsItem is a perfect match for H4n. The cable for recording directly into a dslr camera was worth every penny. I use the splitter, the cable, and the windscreen as i film outdoor videos. It works with our canon dslr set up perfectly!

Everything was in the box, but there was not documentation included. Just one sheet referring you to the Manual for the H4n for use of the Remote, which is fine. However, there is no documentation on any of the other items included in the kit. I purchased mainly for the remote but would like to know about the other things included.

Mainly bought for wind baffle and remote. Both work as intended, no complaints and the remote especially is good to prevent handling noise.

il telecomando è davvero funzionale, la copertura antivento evita che il microfono vada in clip durante le raffiche. Il cavo a Y (splitter) funziona a dovere, l'adattatore hotshoe consente di collegare il microfono alla DSLR/camcorder.Il cavo attenuatore jack-jack ( line to mic) introduce troppo rumore per essere utilizzato, sia registrando il silenzio che i dialoghi si nota un fastidiosissimo rumore di fondo non eliminabile. Ho dovuto utilizzare un altro cavo jack-jack in mio possesso per evitare il rumore.Ritengo davvero poco pratica la registrazione diretta nella DSLR con mic interno H4N montato su hotshoe perchè ogni vibrazione e rumore prodotto dalla fotocamera ( ad esempio regolazione zoom,focus,scatto) viene registrato. Preferisco utilizzare il microfono stand alone vicino alla sorgente sonora e sincronizzare audio/video in post.Secondo me il kit non consente di registrare l'audio direttamente nella DSLR a causa del cavo che introduce troppo rumore; probabilmente è un difetto del cavo inserito nel mio prodotto. Per il resto il kit svolge il suo lavoro.

Here's the problem I had with this product. The hot shoe mount that came with this doesn't actually fit onto my Canon 70D. The square base is the right size but the middle column with all the screwing thread is too thick so it won't slide on properly - rendering it useless. Not a good thing to discover at the last second when you go out to shoot. You'd think something like that would be universal, but it's not. I have another hot shoe mount - but it has a thin middle column so it slides on fine. Other than that everything is fine.

Für das Aufnahmegerät ZOOM H4n wollte ich die Fernsteuerung haben. Dass diese im Set mit weiteren Zubehör angeboten wird, kam mir sehr entgegen. Die Fernsteuerung funktioniert sehr gut, die weiteren Zubehörteile sind praktisch. Kann ich empfehlen. Die Lieferung erfolgte schnell.

Comme il a été dit, pack bien plus intéressant que les éléments achetés séparément. La bonnette est d'une extrême efficacité mais hélas elle perd un peu mais régulièrement ses "cheveux". J'espère que nous n'irons pas ensemble vers la calvitie...Télécommande très fonctionnelle pour éviter les bruits de manip de l'appareil, câble un peu court.
