Excellent lock.
Yes, it weighs a bit, but if you have a small enough waistline (mine is 28in, the chain is 32in), then you can transport it that way, or wrap it around your seatpost (this is the way I carry mine). Honestly it doesn't weigh much more than my U-Lock though. Anyway, I live in LA and this is great for when you need to make a few stops and leave your bike for a couple hours or so. At night, I store my bike in my home, so I don't worry about having to leave it out overnight. But I have been to more sketchy areas and left my bike locked with this lock, and I can say that as long as you know what you are doing, you will be fine with this lock. I make sure to wrap it through my frame and wheel and then tie it before actually locking it. As far as locking and unlocking, honestly it's not that hard. I saw others complaining that their keys get stuck, etc etc. It says right there on the little attention label attached with the keys that you need to make sure the key is inserted to the bottom of the cylinder before turning it. Nothing too complicated about that. I was able to get in and out of the lock with no issues. If it tends to get stuck, you could also probably put a drop of lube in it and it should be fine. That's what I do to my older U-lock (that I also use in conjunction with this lock for my back tire. I feel so much more comfortable locking my bike and leaving it to shop or do whatever I'm going to do. I don't get any sense that my bike is going to be gone when I get back. I do see other people with much nicer-looking bikes who do really poor jobs at locking them up, and it saddens me, because I know that if a thief had to choose between my bike and that person's, they'd choose theirs based on how poorly it's secured. Kryptonite has really good information on their site about locking and securing your bike. Not to mention, they will even suggest what type of lock(s) you should get based on the type of area you live in, things like that. There is so much good information out there on YouTube and places like that. Obviously if a person really wants your bike, they will get it no matter what, but you can do your part to make it as difficult as possible. Put up a good fight. Speaking of fights, this chain also makes very good weapon too, if someone were trying to walk up on you in a dodgy part of town, you could definitely whack'em with this. It's that sturdy and heavy. Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. Great lock for the price, and for where I live and tend to go. Wouldn't recommend this one if you live some place like San Francisco or NY though (depending what part). At least not without a second lock of choice. But in most parts of Los Angeles (except maybe Santa Monica or North Hollywood, HUGE theft target areas) with this lock and proper locking technique, you should be fine.

The Best Budget Lock! (Especially for Students)
My experience: I recently got a new electric scooter, and decided to get a lock with it to replace my old U-Lock from Masterlock. I must say that this Kryptonite chain lock is insanely well-built! I am not a fanatic in locks, but I can definitely tell that this is a great quality lock, and I have had no issues with being able to lock my scooter anywhere with it. Pros: The lock is very versatile. The chain design makes it extremely easy to lock and ensures that thieves have trouble cutting it open, especially if you make well-designed loops around areas around the scooter that are very hard to physically access hands-on. The lock comes with a spare key and it is relatively light for a metal chain, weighing around 5 pounds or so. I bought this lock for around $40, and I must say it is definitely a great budget lock, especially for students who have just bought a new e-bike or scooter and are afraid of thieves! Cons: The lock isn’t the most portable compared to a U-Lock. For U-locks, you can easily hook onto a bike or scooter while riding; however, chain locks are a lot different in that case and require you to at least have a backpack or bag on the handlebars as you ride. This could be difficult for some people, but as a student it's perfect for me since I always carry my backpack everywhere! Another con is definitely the length of the chain, which gives some limitations when trying to lock it around areas that you may find more secure. It is only 2.5 feet, so if you have enough money, I highly recommend spending for the extra length. Just remember to have the portability to carry it! Verdict: This lock is great, and I highly recommend it if you’re on a budget. If you are someone who is still skeptical, you can always invest in another Kryptonite lock or possibly just buy one of these variants with a longer chain capability. I lock it around my school every day and have no hassle with taking it in and out. Remember to always lock your belongings, especially your e-vehicles!

Very solid lock and good value for the money
I bought this to lock up a snowbike while breaking for lunch. Resorts are typically crowded so I'm not overly concerned about leaving the bike while we break for lunch but still wanted to keep it secure with something other than a $10 combo lock. So I picked this up along with the next model up to compare. This lock is very solid, and while it can probably be defeated with bolt cutters, it would take some work to get the job done. I would not use this on something I was leaving in a visible space overnight but it will certainly work well for short stops like lunch. The nylon sleeve is durable and protects the chain from debris, etc. but I think it would slow a thief down as well. The chain is hardened steel so it won't cut easy. The lock is coated and feels solid. The total length is just under 3 feet which works well for my use case, I didn't want something too long with a lot of slop but be long enough to wrap around a ski rack and the bike frame. This seems perfect. It's not too heavy to weigh you down and if you have a slim enough waist, you can wear the lock like a belt if no place to carry on bike. I have a 34" waist and it fits perfect, though I wrap around the neck of the bike instead. Overall, feels like a good lock.

Great Locks--Even Superman Can't Break Them!
What's not to love about these locks? Heavy duty design, but they are not too heavy to carry. The key is small and easy to use, and they are effective with any bike. These are designed for larger bikes; perhaps not ideal for young children. But aside from that, it's a great, highly visible theft deterrent.

Rock-Solid Security
I have an ebike that I ride to work in a populated downtown so bike theft is a real threat but this bike lock is tough, reliable, and gives me peace of mind every time I leave my bike. It’s sturdy and well-built, and I feel confident it can handle attempts to tamper with it. The lock mechanism is smooth and easy to use. Definitely worth the investment for keeping your bike safe.

What's Most Important to Know
I bought a couple of these bicycle chain locks for my wife and my new bicycles. I haven't needed to use them yet, but I inspected them after I received them to make sure that I knew how they worked. I am favorably impressed with how heavy and thick the chain and locking mechanism is. It looks to be designed to be hard to defeat. I chose this model because our expected use it to lock up the bicycles up for an hour or two should we go to a store or restaurant, or something similar. The locks will not need to protect bicycle that is left in public for an extended time. So I judged this mid-range lock to be adequate, and my inspection confirms my thinking that this will work well. I gave it a 4-start on the "easy to lock" feature because the key and lock seemed a bit rough on first try, but this may loosen up with time or with addition of some lubricant. Other than that, I think this will work well for us.
