Ballston83% Wool Heavyweight Expedition Weight Hunting Socks - 3 Pairs for Men and Women

Do you want to feel like your feet are sinking into a deep-pile 1970s shag rug with every step? These expedition-weight Ballston’s are your socks. I have been trying to figure out how to demonstrate to you their fluffiness. If these socks were a sandwich, I would struggle to wrap my tiny lady hands around them. I would starve to death before I figured out how to wedge this sock-sandwich inside my face. Maybe the photos will help explain.I like these socks. Pre-washing, they’re a tiny bit big for a women’s size 8.5/men’s size 7 foot. But I don’t mind at all. No more cold floors for me!

These socks would be fine if one of the pairs didn't begin to fall apart once washed (front-loader, delicate, cold water, cool dry). I contacted the maker, but have gotten zero response. 2 out of 3 pairs were okay, but zero customer service from the maker? That's why my one-star review.These socks are clearly inferior to Smart Wool, REI and other high-end brands. You get what you pay for. I've ordered other non-big-name brands and have had good results. I'm particularly impressed by Goodhew socksBalstons are certainly thick, about as thick as Smartwool's expedition weight socks. So no problem there. Just as expected.

I ordered one size up anticipating shrinkage after they are washed. They fit perfectly and my husband loves them and wears them daily in his work boots. He is the construction trades and is in and out of warm and cold all day and his feet stay dry and warm. He also wore them hunting and I didn't hear any complaints of cold feet. Thinking about ordering them for the whole family!!!! We live in the upper peninsula of Michigan so we start wearing our wool socks in the fall and don't take them off until spring.

This is a no-joke humongously thick sock. They are extremely comfortable, and the weave is nice and tight. They've gone through the wash several times now - the high construction quality is apparent. $12 for a pair of socks may seem nutty, but it's reasonable for what you get. (1/4 lb of wool per pair - no joke - i weighed them.)You will likely need bigger shoes to accommodate them. And the sizes run a little big.As for the stink - dont be afraid. If you understand what it is, and how to manage it, it's no big deal. The smell is coming from the lanolin in the wool - they do NOT smell like feet. In fact, you probably should wear these socks for 2 days before washing them, because wool is actually much less prone to odors than cotton.If you wash 6 pairs together for the 1st time, the lanolin smell may knock you down. But the smell gets lighter with each wash, and once out of the dryer it's hardly noticeable. If you only wash 2 or 3 pairs with a full load, you wont notice anything. And again, it will get lighter and lighter. Bottom line: these are awesome socks - dont let the wet wool smell put you off at first.

These socks are very comfortable to wear .I work in a cold building with no heat.These socks keep my feet very warm.II'm no by uytguu

MADE in AMERICA!!!! Quality, Warmth, true to size. I wore these for the first time at snowmobile races in Minnesota. I’m going to add that the temperature was well below zero. I will buy again. Hands down the most comfortable wool socks that I have ever worn. They wick moisture away from your feet and keep your feet warm. You pay for what you get! These socks are not the wool socks of the good old days. You know, the ones that didn’t stretch very well and bunched up on your ankles, and made your feet itch. I am going too seek out other products from Ballston. These are must have socks. I couldn’t wait to write this review after I wore these socks out in the field. I have size 15 feet. It’s hard to find socks that fit. Now it’s easy. Ballston! I do not have any affiliation with this company nor did receive these socks for free. I paid for them. Yes they are higher priced than cheap socks made (who knows where) and made of (who knows what). I’ve only written a handful of reviews and am not a professional writer.

I received my order very quickly. I ordered the wool socks on December 24 and got them just four days later. I got them for my son who's diabetic. He lost over 120 pounds last year and he complained that his feet were cold all the time. The second he put one on he said he loved them. He told me he would only take them off to wash them . My son has size 12 6e feet so I ordered the size 13-15 and they fit him perfectly without being tight.

Having a size 14E, buying good socks has been a problem. Getting good quality socks that FIT have been difficult... until now. These socks are VERY comfortable and FIT well, easy to put On/Off compared to those one-size fits most package deals. I ordered the XXL ones that fit sizes larger than my size 14-- based on another reviewers feedback, and I agree that workerd wonderful for me as well.
