Shoe Lasts Women's Men's for Shoemaking (Men 40 EU)

Nice set but not for every shape of a shoe

The lasts came in. I had to order a size 43 because there were no half sizes (42/43). I wear a Men's size 9.5 EEEE running shoe. Ordered by my foot doctor. They evidently don't make wide enough shoes for women. I was correct in thinking that sandal lasts run wider than shoe lasts. they are still a bit narrower than what I needed around the toe width for my EEEE width. The sole measurement is 10-3/4" long. Heel width is 3" AND, the bumpout for the heel sticks out 1/4" above the sole. Ball Joint area is 4" wide The width on the SOLE from the outside to the slot is 2-1/4" and the slot is 3/8" and the toe 1-5/16" wide. The slot for the thong strap is 1-1/4" deep, at it's deepest part. And it is slotted 1-1/8" into the front of the shoe last from the tip of the toes. The heel is nice and wide for sandals. The depth of the area right behind the toe, before you get to the ball joint area is rather thick and I'm going to have to grind that down because it's too deep for the thong and it won't slide into any of my sandals I already own, without stretching them. I wear an 8/9 or 9/10 men's flip flop for the width and the fact that they aren't wedges (can't wear heels). The size 43 last is like 1/16th of an inch too long in the toe for the 8/9 size flip flop and the sole fits perfectly for the size 9/10. Howbeit, it isn't as wide in the toe area, which is where I need the width. I'll need to add about 1/4" to the outside and 1/16" to the inside. So these are keepers! I'll have to build them up some around the toes. For those wanting to use these for regular shoes...there's no way you are going to do that. The base of the last in the HEEL is too wide for a regular shoe sole. Unless you have fat feet. Also, something cool! I found out that these shoe lasts fit the sole of my size 10/11 furry house slippers. Which means that I am making a ton of house slippers that fit! And I can take out the stitching on the ones I bought, made in China, that didn't have any padding in the sole whatsoever this year, add some EVA foam and sew them back up again.

Super fast shipping is right! Except this is my 2d purch from China that got here within a week. Appears “China” is just outside Los Angeles, probably on a freighter. Paperwork is processed and item is here US. Anyhoo, these are nice sandal lasts and the plan is to make some using old tires (Google it). You can also take old shoes and use parts. See book by Mary Loomis Wales (out of print). I made shoes from her book years ago but never had a good last by making my own. Bonus is the toe-slit for sandals. Next purchase? A shoe sewing machine.
