Perfect Business Recorder
This recorder was purchased to provide backup for written minutes of charitable foundation meetings. Sitting unobtrusively on the table, its twin microphones pick up voices from all over the room, and its speaker reproduces them with lifelike accuracy. The controls are simple and intuitive and the recordings are catalogued by date for easy retrieval. This is my first experience with a digital voice recorder, and it is much better than a microcassette recorder. For the purpose it was purchased, I don't think I could find anything better for a comparable price.

Sony needs to fix the card slot!
If you use a Micro SDHC card with an adapter you will have trouble getting the card out of the slot. I had trouble with different adapters, i had to jiggle them for quite a while and was so scarred that they will stuck in the slot and not able to use the recorder. So, use regular size SDHC card only. This recorder is easy to use compare to the bar type recorder. You can go back and forth or erase your recordings according to the dates. It's better if Sony put the menu and erase buttons above instead on the side. The ac adapter is fragile and no USB. I gave 3 stars because of the bad slot.

GOOD FIDELITY--DISAPPOINTING-NO USB OUTPUT
very user friendly. compatible with sd memory cards 1gb-32db, Fidelity very good. Sandisk sd;compatible. Do not use any sd with "X" in designation--not compatible. Did not rate 5 star because lacks usb output--only has 3.5mm output--couldl not use it in my car where I have a usb linput to play mp3 player or ipod through my Bose sound system.. I guess Sony was too cheap to include usb output. Only way to use plqyer in car. if you have an aux power supply or cigarette lighter where you csn plug in an FM transmitter. I was discouraged from using FM transmitter because of static. As you know, you transmit signal lthrough FM transmitter by turning into an FM signal not used by a broadcasting company.

Fits the Bill
I was looking for a digital recorder for smaller office meetings as using a micro-cassette recorder was no longer an option. This unit has wonderful clarity, picks up the softer voices across the room (15 to 20 feet) and makes transcribing different accents a whole lot easier. I even prefer this unit over a handheld digital voice recorder. Uploading the recording to the computer is simple by way of inserting the memory card into the appropriate slot. I listen to my recordings through The Record Player software and although I'm used to using a foot pedal to transcribe longer meetings, this unit fits the bill for the shorter meetings, though the recording time is very generous and I wouldn't hesitate to record a longer meeting. I've now purchased two for home use and recommended the unit to coworkers who've since purchased their own. They love it!

read specs said I needed micro SD...it uses regular SD
Now I have to order a 32GB REGULAR SD...so what am I supposed to do with an opened microSC???? Go read the specifications elsewhere, before ordering the backup products.

Perfect and easy
This is perfect for someone who wants a basic voice recorder without all the bells and whistles, but is so easy to use. I got this to conduct oral histories and it works very well. I don't need to worry whether it is recording or recording over something since it only records onto flash memory cards. I can remove an old one for storage or download on my computer and the conversation is saved and safe.

Excellent Recorder and MP3 Player
Something that is hard to find is a decent player which accepts a full size SD HD card ( up to 32 GB). And a player which searches the folders on the card and puts mp3 files into a music folder. And a player with a large speaker. And a player which runs on standard AAA batteries and comes with an AC adapter. I use it to screen weekly recordings of C2C from my Crane CC Witness which is mounted on an acrylic pedestal inside a Kaito AM loop antenna induction signal intensifier (no wires or batteries required) all sitting on a small 10 inch Laz Z Susan type turntable. All available on Amazon.

I bought it more as a curiosity
Seeing How I practically have every other line of voice recorders from Sony, I thought I'd give this one a try too. Also I don't have the $800 recorder that they offer. Not worth the price. To cut to the end. It's expensive since it's discontinued. That's it. BUT it's on par recording quality with their $70 extremely pocketable recorder (ICD-UX570). THOUGH, I do like that this one takes standard batteries. That's kind of nice also can be hooked up to a wall outlet as well. Built in mics are terrible and I can't imagine this sold for $200 when it initially came out which I think mine had a copyright date of 2013 on it, to give you an idea of how old this thing is.It's not terrible, it's not great, and if you're not a tech collector like I am, you can just buy the UX570. Another thing to note, is this came with a 2GB SD card (non-micro) which leads me to believe this can only accept FAT32 format and 4GB max cards, especially given the age of this product.

Sony recorder for doing busines - better record than reading different version about the conversation I had before.
Yes, it is working as expected - very good unit. You can play back the recorded conversation and later you can say to the people : HERE IS, WHAT WE WAS SAYING .Happy about the performance.
